Is one championship season enough to warrant this honor?

If Michael Jordan can get his number retired across the league in the NBA, I don't see why Favre's can't be retired by us for helping us win a Super Bowl and being one of the best QBs of all time.

Sure why not? It has been some 40 some odd years since we won our last SB

Favre would be leading the offense but you can't retire his # for one year. Jenkins is by far our most dominant player on defense and this poll would look alot different if his name were up there simply because he is not a QB. Sometimes I feel as if Favre belongs to GB and we just rented him for a year to take us to the SB.

Favre is a Packer for life, but if he leads the Jets to a Super Bowl title, OF COURSE the Jets should retire #4.

No, you retire a players jersey because they were with your team for a long time and contributed in a huge way. He's contributed in a huge way this year but he hasn't been a Jet for that long.

Why are we even discussing this? Are we trying to jinx this team? We aren't even in the playoffs. Two weeks ago all of you wanted Mangini fired.

The Jets don't retire many numbers. I'm a Favre fan but one season? Win the frickin SB first with some real #4 heroics and lets revisit in Feb.

If the Jets win the Super Bowl they should retire every number currently being used 'cause who knows when that will happen again.

Then we should retire Jenkins' number. He has had more impact on the turnaround.

Retire both then. Without one, the other would not be succeeding like the they are right now.

    Haha, its funny arguing this.

its a mute point. favre won't retire himself until like 2040 and by then we'll have our own statium in the middle of NYC. but then, yes, he should have his number retired for the 20 years of leading the jet offense to multiple superbowl titles.

Look, it's always different comparing a DT and QB. Why?

QB is the leader of the entire football team. He was voted the team captain by his teammates. Defensive, and offensive, players are singing his praise. I am not diminishing the impact of Kris Jenkins, but it's always different because Favre does more then just play this game really well. He is a natural born leader.

    As for retiring his number?

First, the jets need to win the super bowl. This is obviously attainable, even this season.

Still, would that be enough? I mean, If Joe Namath never won a ring, would we know who he is? He had a very pedestrian career. Really, one decent season, and you won the SB because of it. Now, if #4 comes back after winning the SB this season, and does the impossible and wins ANOTHER ring next season... alright. It's very safe to say his number should be retired. Back to Back superbowl wins with this team, something he couldn't pull off in GB, would just be astounding.

Plus, that would give him just as many rings as Tom Brady. I wonder if people will still put tom ahead of Favre for all time greatest if that happens.

We are, however, getting ahead of ourselves. Lets qualify officialy for the playoffs this year, then win the SB. We'll revisit this topic next season should #4 come back.

JWN scored enough ass to have his #12 retired on that alone, and enshrined in the manhood HOF!

Leading the Jets to a Super Bowl victory would be a bigger contribution to the Jets team than 99% of the players who have ever walked through here, even if it all happened in only one year.

So, I voted yes. If he is the catalyst to us winning a Super Bowl, retire the man's jersey.

Besides, he would've had as many Super Bowl wins in NY as he did in GB if that happened.
