If Pennington had the game that Brady did tonight, we'd be hearing how he can't beat good teams, how defenses have figured him out, and how he can't lead us to the Super Bowl. Four picks against the Colts??? It just goes to show that ALL QBs are up and down all QBs have bad games a few times during the season.
But Brady has won Super Bowls, has had a lot of success in the past, especially against the Colts, and at this point, you really can't question Brady's football skill. Pennington hasn't proven much of anything since 2002. He's been an average at best QB since then.
I don't question Brady's skill at all. I'm just saying that all QBs have bad games and a loss doesn't mean that the league has figured a QB out. And as good as Brady is, he has played on some very good teams with great defesnes and the best coach in the NFL. Pennington has played on some average and bad teams and hasn't played for a good coach yet (Mangini's coaching ability is TBD).
So in one thread you state that the Jets can win the next two games and in this thread you want to start a rookie against two of the best teams in football. Those inconsistent statements cause you to lose all credibility. If you really believe that the Jets can win one of the next two games, you can't believe that Clemens should play. And if you believe Clemens should play, you have given up on the season.
What has he done to lose his job? Had one bad game against Cleveland (when he really threw the tying TD pass but got robbed)?? It's not Pennington that is giving up 160 yards a game on the ground and it's not Pennington that can't run the ball and it's not Pennington that can't rush the passer. People are just too critical of him at times when he is actually in the running for comeback player of the year.
Exactly. Give me a break, comparing Brady and Pennington at this point is retarded and shows a homer agenda. If Brady were Pennington, he'd have a noodle arm, have been injured almost every season, have never completed a full 16 games, have zero SB wins, etc. Why not pick another player, like Carson Palmer. I would agree more with that point joe willie, since I think Palmer hasn't been very good.
One bad game? What do you call the Jacksonville game? What do you call the first half against Miami? The first 3 quarters against New England? The New England game his stats look better than they should because of two fluke plays and the Pats letting up on us after going up 24-0, if they had wanted to, we'd have been shut out by them, but I guess they had more class than the Jaguars. What did Vinny do to lose his job 4 years ago? What has Bledsoe done to lose his job? Bledsoe had the Cowboys at a good record, and even in his bad games put up more offensive stats than Penny has done in his bad games, but he was summarily removed at the half on a nationally televised game. Was it unfair to Bledsoe?
What was New Englands record and how many SB wins did they have under Bledsoe? How good a coach was BB before he had Brady as his QB? What year did Pennington take the Jets to more wins under Herm than Vinny did under Herm in 01, a team that had the 28th ranked rushing D in the league that year?
Both Testaverde and Bledsoe lost (and were the main reasons for losing) on teams that were supposssed to lose. Pennington has won (and has been the main reason for the wins) on a team that was supposed to lose. That is the difference.
Testeverde and Bledsoe both have put up much better years and done more to help their teams win then Pennington at his best. Pennington has yet to consistently stink as much as Bledsoe or Testeverde but he never was as good as either of them in their peak years.
I think he was being sarcastic, he has been one of the few Jets fans who has been believing in Penny from day 1.
Brady has 3 rings that are probably valued at 15K each that prove he can beat good teams. Because of this, he gets a pass.
Besides the obvious flaws in comparing Brady to Pennington based on their histories, I find it interesting that some people are simply ignoring Pennington's play over the last 6 games: 90 for 148, 933 yards (that's 156 yards per game and 6.3 yards per attempt), 5 TDS, and 7 INTs. As always, his completion percentage is high (and hence he gets high QB ratings), but there's been relatively little production, especially in the losses (in the three losses in the last six games he has 1 TD and 6 INTs). I wouldn't pull him for this Sunday's game, but it's been a while now that is hasn't just been "one bad game."
I hate comparing one QB To another but one thing is for sure if Brady had a defense like ours and if his offensive coordinator was still working out all the bugs in his new offensive system then Brady wouldn’t be winning as many games as he has. Pennington has done admirably with what he has around him, at time penny looks scared and confused and others he seem to have a real control of the offense's tempo. That Cleveland game was so hard to watch because this was a team he should have been able to throw on and that didn’t happen. Stop the run and produce a running game and we will have a chance
