I'd go against the conventional wisdom and draft at the top for offense. Improving time of possession and points scored will help the defense as much or more than drafting good D players. 4: Evan Neal OT 10: Linderbaum C Pray he's still available 35: Treylon Burks WR
Evan Neal if Fant walks. I love Linderbaum. He’s a 10 year starter. Would love to get a RG like Cade Mays or Jamaree Slayer round 4
Without the trade back speculation it comes down to three players for me, purely at 4: 1. George Karalaftis 2. Kyle Hamilton 3. Stingley You can get Sauce Gardner, Andrew Booth, etc. if we trade down (even if we lose on Stingley). or at 10. I can't state it enough how much edge help we need. Not only because edge players often get hurt (LAwson, Chase Young etc) you also need depth to play multiple DE a game. If Kralafits tests well enough to show he is a WSDE at the combine, I go him at 4..
I guess you see Karalaftis as kind of J.J. Watt similar. But his stats in college don't compare favorably. Far less tackles, sacks, and TFL's.
It's not always about stats with them. Tape doesn't lie if he was consistently doubled. Scouts will be able to determine if his first move and explosiveness is worthy of being a franchise DE. Bottom line, we need a DE with the first four picks. I like Ojabo as well but that would be at 10.
Good point about stats vs. film. Lots of high ranked DE/Edge guys don't make the impact you think they would even if they're not busts. Clowney, Myles Garrett come to mind--undeniably great players picked very high and nice to have but their overall team-impact is limited. I just don't see the reason why we have to take a DE in the first 4 picks at the cost of an OT.
That would certainly help the offense but I don’t see all three picks going offense. I’m pretty sure Neal will be off the board at #4. That pick will be defense - hopefully Theobideaux. Linderbaum would probably be the pick at #10. At that point I’m not sure about #35. Burks may or may not be there maybe they go with another big WR or maybe they jump on McBride the TE.
Last year our big FA signings were on D and drafted O with our early picks. I expect the opposite this year. Can’t wait to see how it plays out.
Ya--I agree with you this is likely--I'm not trying to predict Jets moves--just what I would do as tho that matters haha.
Ojabo scares me because he is a one year wonder. Not saying he can’t do it but how much if his success came from playing with Hutch opposite him?
