http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-netwo...arcus-Russell?campaign=Twitter_videos_russell Don't slaughter me for this (and it probably won't work) but what would you think about a non-fat JaMarcus Russell coming to the Jets? If he is willing to stay where he is weight wise and start being more serious, I wouldn't mind. He'd be an adequate stopgap.
:rofl2:............ The Hatred is strong in you young Skywalker.... What stop gap? The organization, is committed to sanchez. Stop reading the papers. Otherwise, one of two things would have happened, A: they would have pursued a visble free agent(hot garbage, Flynn,Moore, KOLB that actually played for Marty) that wasnt aknown cripple. Or B: they would have pounced on Smith at 13, instead of playing the 39th pick lotto. (i.e. taking Smith as a luxury, rather than a necessity pick. Do you really think they KNEW the Jills were going with Manuel?)
i'd love to get jamarcus russell. i always love the humble guys that have a chip on their shoulders. also hobbes i know you've been here for a long time and probably are respected here a lot, but you're delusional love for sanchez is annoying
I mean, it wouldn't be a long term solution. This is a compromise between Sanchez haters (like myself) and those who don't want Geno rushed into things. He'd be more viable than either McElroy or Simms, that's for sure.
Do you really think they're that committed to Sanchez? I mean he should improve yeah but... they aren't banking on him to be the franchise guy anymore. They have to know theres a low chance of him being an acceptable use of the money he's making next year, when they could cut him for ALOT more cap room to support their new guy (geno or not, the alternative will be cheaper and that means more money for support). Hes on his last licks in NY wether you believe it or not. If anything, HE's a stop gap if he does well enough to start. It will take a damn miracle for him to be the starter next year let alone this one. (I'm talking super bowl) Theres just too low of a chance he's worth the 13 million in base and bonuses. As for Russell, he honestly seems committed to the cause now, but... do we really want to take away more reps from our starter? I was starting to like the idea of either one of these two getting the job early and getting more time to be developed during training camp as a result. pass, but if he was in our camp, whatever let him try he's got the ethic back.
I get where you're coming from, but that stop-gap should have had success in this league at some point or he's just another fuckin bum. Jam Russell has not had any success in this league, he's actually a downgrade from Sanchez imo. He looked completely lost out there for the Raiders.
Agreed. I have no problem with the Jets looking at any QB out there with any semblance of talent. Not much harm can be done to take a look if neither Sanchez nor Geno is impressing that much. But I'd much prefer Young because he wouldn't have nearly the "circus" stigma around him.
If he brings competition then sure, why not, I'd probably take him over McElroy or Simms as a #3. If he's gonna bring a punk attitude and a thug personality then he can go gain all that weight back and not even try.
jetsfanmack, lets be honest, regardless of who we sign, it will be labeled a circus act. jamarcus russell has a lot of god given abilities, his only downfall with the raiders was not giving a shit. if you've watched his comeback videos it seems like he really wants to come back and prove the world he isnt a bum. seriously, if he didnt care do you really believe he would of lost 50 pounds?
I don't have a whole lot of faith in him, but if the Jets work him out and he looks good, and they think he has potential to be something, then I wouldn't want public perception to determine the decision. But unless he shows a ton of potential, I'd rather not deal with that headache. I think he gives a shit. And he has a huge arm and frame. But just because he cares won't fix his ability to make plays and read defenses.
I wouldn't mind, but this would give the media so much to talk about that it would t even be worth it honestly.
Ah Hobbes, Repeat....Earth Calling Hobbes, Repeat. There was/is no cap space for signing or taking on the contract of a player Flynn or even Moore, Jets have practically no cap space.... Jets considered taking Smith at 13 but realized noone after them would take him in the first round, they then tried to trade up in the second round to get Smith but those efforts failed. The Jets are not comitted to Sanchez for anything but 13 million in cap space.
JaMarcus Russell is the kind of acquisition that you make only if you think there's a real chance he's the guy. He's going to bring too much negative attention to bring him in on a competitive tryout basis. He's going to add to the circus atmosphere because even if he's not that the media will make him that to sell. In other words he doesn't have value to the Jets as a cheap asset that can be easily discarded. All the value in picking him up for a song and seeing if he has anything is consumed by the media flack the Jets would immediately begin to take if they brought him in. So if the Jets think he's a great talent waiting to blossom maybe he's worth bringing in. Otherwise he's going to be a lot more trouble than he's worth. Like Tebow was.
tanny would have had him signed a week ago.i wonder what idz is going to do? he seems stoic enough to say damn the press if the man can play its just another transaction. but he also seems so low key that he wouldn't want to bring the story that will come with j.russel on another note. this is another one of those deals where if the patriots pick him up it will be a shrewd move bringing in a talented guy that might have a chance to step in as bradys replacement when he retires. but if we do it, "the circus continues, the guys a bum and he only wants back because he is broke. and wasn't he busted with cough medicine? he will fit right in with the characters rex has."
They can't make their decisions off the media perceptions they give off, to me thats not the reason they shouldn't sign him. Its because he wouldn't add much worth to the team overall, Garrard was a steady veteran backup option from our struggling "franchise" quarterback and rookie. Russell is a question mark, and we already have those, why add another? I think that was the biggest reason for cutting Tebow, not only did it add a bit of cash to the jets pocket (and relieved the media headache), but he wasn't due to help much in our current offense. If he had some success in the WCO, he'd probably still be here. This isn't the right time to take a flyer for this organization.
