Even though i wont be thrilled about with this pick, the more i think about it the more i wouldn't mind it. Mays coverage skills scare me but he has a ton of physical ability and brings the knockout hit. There are a select amount of teams i can see him having a good pro career with. But if he gets with the wrong team he will be a bust. The Jets are one of the teams i could really see Mays excelling with. Rex would turn Mays into a top 5 Safety that will knock you the F*ck out if your anywhere near him. If we pick up Taylor don't be surprised if we take Mays. As of right now if Mays is there its 50/50 if we take him or don't. But in THIS defense and with THIS team i think Mays would be a phenomenal fit. The more i think about it the more i want Mays in the defense.
God...i hope you're wrong. The degree of fury I will reach will depend on who's left on the board if Mays is selected.
Rick Sapp or Linval Joseph  or One of the other 224 draft choices. Both are completely wrong for this team
You can coach how to cover you cant coach how to knock ppl out and have the size and speed and physical gifts that Mays has. I will not boo the pick but wont be jumping up and down about it. But Mays can be a monster in this defense.
Fixed it for you. What kind of masochist envisions Mays and Hughes as the only two options for the Jets in the first round?
you know what's sad...i ALMOST created a thread earlier with that exact question.....but i refrained.....because i thought my head would explode. To answer your question......i choose the blue pill.
If Hughes and Mays are both available and Graham Pouncey,Iupati,Kindle,Odrick,Cody(who i dont want),Thomas are all gone and we dont trade down. Hughes and Mays are both literally the best options. I like Joseph but he is a reach at #29. If the above players are all gone and we dont trade down, Im 100% sure our pick will either be Mays or Hughes.
Im guessing Mays and just put him at outside linebacker and have him blitz, hes a hell of a hitter, rather then safety but thats about it never in coverage situations.
I like Jerry Hughes, a lot, and think he would fit well, but I just don't see that with Mays. We are already able to stop the run with the front seven, why would we need an eighth who can ONLY stop the run?
Better that we reach a little for a player like Joseph as opposed to taking a player like Mays/hughes who are supposedly "value" picks but are not only completely wrong for our team in the case of mays, likely will not last long in the NFL...
You can't coach the natural football instincts that great players have...whether it's simply taking good angles or fluidity of the hips...Mays doesn't have the small essential things like that.
