patrick ramsey is not the future, but by adding him to the roster adds depth to the qb position for 06. something the jets lacked in 05. i wouldnt rule out a qb in the draft and mort agrees. mort also reported mario williams is considered by some as the bpa in the draft and mentioned he could be better than julius peppers. mort mentioned him as an option for the jets. imho i would draft mario williams or dbrick.
i dont understand how the jets lacked depth in 05 the had fielder backing up chad. Probably the best backup in the league. Its just the jets luck that both get injured plays apart. If we get ramsey as a back up draft hawk
We didn't lack depth, we had 2 quality guys and both got hurt. No team can plan for 2 QBs to go down.
hawk also fits the bill. you need great lbs in a 3-4. imo the quickest way for the jets to return to glory is by building a great defense. look at the 05 bears they didnt have a prolific offense, but they won games with their d. the jets have some nice young pieces already in place to build upon.
That is a great post, and I agree completely. The Jets strength is obviously the defense, and whats more... defense wins championships. If the Jets can take the foundation that's been left for them and expand on it, they could be looking at a very formidable team for years to come. I'm very happy with the direction the Jets are heading in and I hope they choose a path of defense and offensive line come draft time.
We went into last year with our starter coming off an injury having never played a full season and Fiedler having played exactly one full season in his entire NFL career.
We had maybe the best depth of any team in the NFL w/ our top 2. It's not the fault of Mgmt that both QBs went down in the same game.
You can blame the management for backing up an injury prone Qb that was still injured with another injury prone Qb..
sure, but the injuries Pennington and Fiedler suffered last year had nothing to do with them being injury prone in the past. they were left wide open and vulnerable to take hits that would have sent most QB's to the shelf. now, it is managements fault for protecting those QB's with an awful line, but nobody anticipated that.
Mario williams is a beast. Wether he is 6'6 285 or 6'7 295. He will be atleast a good player. By trading abe we can get 2 picks and replace him with someone bigger and as fast or faster than abe oh yeah williams is also stronger. And use the other pick we get for abe for whatever we choose. This is why we trade abe. Mangini as myself wants to get younger there you go. With the 4th pick the jets select mario williams. And use the other first for whatever we want. We are sitting pretty, we must trade abe. This draft is key.
Mario can be a great player, if he wants to be. That is the biggest question on him. To be successful in the 3-4 hybrid we need a penetrating NT. Can we find one in FA as a short term fill in? Is Dwayne Robertson the answer? If not, do we draft Mario and have the both of them? Are we better off dumping Dwayne and drafting Ngota instead? A lot of questions for the new CS to decide...
Right, and Richard Todd gets "turf toe" in his livingroom, Matt Robinson busts his thumb "thumb wrestling" in bar, and Neil O'Donnell rips his calf muscle in two just by standing still. Must I continue?! Hehehe.
that make a lot of sense. Let's get rid of a pro bowler DE and draft a unproven one. Call me dumb but something just doesn't make sense.
By getting rid of the Pro bowl player we can add 2 FA and a 1st day draft pick. We can go 4 & 12 without Abe counting 8 plus million against the cap. You just needed someone to explain it to you, you're not dumb at all.
Abe was babied when he was here under Herm. He doesn't want to be here and we might as well get rid of him and start a fresh one under a new coaching staff.
I agree. Plus we get a 20 year old DE vs a 28 year old DE who in a few years will be on the downside of his career and has a history of injuries and possible problems with alcohol abuse. I would much rather have the 20 year old, 2 FA's and a 1st round draft pick.
