    But I will.

    Today we wanted:

Cincy to lose == they did
Jax to lose -- they didnt
KC to lose -- they didnt
I suppose Denver and SD losses are ultimately good but we can root for one of them to run with it.

    Playoffs as of today:

    Indy
    NE
    Denver
    Bal
    _____
    SD
    JAX
    ____
    KC 5-3
    Jets
    Cincy

As long as mathematics have us in the race, you can't say that we are not in the race. Our schedule is "easy" and stranger things have happened in the NFL than stealing a game from the Bears or the Patriots, really.

But again, it's unlikely. But hey, I ain't mad at those with high hopes - if you simply had NO hope whatsoever, where'd the fun out of supporting your team be?

Anything can happen. Keep the faith, but it is a long shot.

Anybody who gives up faith at this point isn't a real football fan. Every year we wait for the NFL season to come around. When if finally comes we should all keep hope until we are mathmatically eliminated

    We're not in the race.

    There, I said it.

Indy, NE, Denver, Baltimore, SD, Jacksonville, KC and Cincy (Tiebreaker) are ALL ahead of us.

Its to early to count us out. If we come out and win one of the next two games, things could get interesting. They still are in it and even if we can hope for the playoffs, it will make the season worth following. I wouldnt want to be in Pittsburgh's or Miami's shoes right now since they are already looking towards next year. We still have this year to enjoy.

Here are the teams in the race:

I believe 5 teams are LOCKED into the playoffs:
    Indianapolis-7-0
    New England-6-1
    Denver-6-2
    Baltimore-6-2
    San Diego 6-2

Then 4 teams fighting for the Final Playoff Spot:
    Jacksonville-5-3
    Kansas City-5-3
    NY Jets-4-4
    Cincinnati-4-4

Out of those 4 teams, I would say the Jets are the worst.

This probably isn't the Jets season to make the playoffs, but they could be in the race until the end.

A key injury here and there to some of those fringe teams could easily put the Jets in the race. Having said that, if the Jets actually earn a playoff spot, they just might be one of the worst teams in NFL history to pull it off.

It's not a matter of faith. It's a matter of being realistic.

Like I said, too many damn optimistic people on this board.

Those teams all have tough games left.

Jax plays Colts, Pats, Giants, KC and two games that may give them trouble at buffalo and at miami.
KC plays denver, baltimore, san deigo, jax
Cinny plays SD, New Orleans, Baltimore, Indy and Denver

Jets play Pats, Bears and Vikings with winning records.

We would need a better record than jax to beat them out, but we could tie the other two teams. We a just one game back lets not call it a season just yet.

Right now I'm not thinking about wildcard, I'm thinking AFCE title. If the colts win tonight (which they currently are) are we come in to foxboro and defeat the Pats next week, we are right there in it.

then we're still 1 game out, with 4 losses in conference, which is the 3rd tiebreaker.

Id love to see us make the playoffs... that cleveland game made it extremely unlikely

Yes the cleveland game took alot out of us, but I feel that was more of a fluke game, and the jets will get it rolling again after the bye.

With an easy schedule after the pats game, if they win, we should be able to finish with a better record than the pats.

Yeah, but realistically this team has a chance to make the playoffs. There have been numerous posts on this site about people who want to see the Jets win but not make the playoffs because they don't want to see them embarassed. And I also know that there are some people who are rooting for the Jets to lose so we can get a better draft pick, although they won't admit it. It's just that we wait so long for the NFL season to come and even in a rebuilding year we should keep up hopes about our playoff chances. Especially since we are 4-4 halfway into the season. If we were having a season like the Dolphins or the season we had last year I could see people giving up hope. However, we do have an easy schedule and a chance to make the playoffs.
