That's hard to say, let alone guarantee. What if a stud OL is available at #15? Or a stud WR, or DT, or ML, to name 4 big holes they need to fill with ready-t-play-now players. If no one fits that level, then yes, I could see JD trading back in return for a 2024 1st rounder (in addition to switching 1st round slots this year), but if someone is willing to give up such a premium pick for a player, aside from QB there's a pretty chance that Douglas might also want that player. I could happen, but I don't think it's guaranteed to happen.
The only way this happens is if an OT is not on the board and a QB slips for some reason and is still on the board. Betting man would put those odds in the 5-10% range... but weirder things have happened. I also think we'd be pretty upset if the Jets traded away either the Gardner or Garrett Wilson picks last year. If one of the top OT's are still on the board, it's a no brainer.
Don't kill my inner Joe Namath man.. I am guaranteeing it. If I don't deliver, ready to face the reality but s Joe the great said it one time, I guarantee it.
And who might that trading partner be that would be willing to give up a premium 2024 first round pick?
I was thinking along these lines yesterday after looking at the Jets picks this year. I didn’t realize they only had 5 picks total this year after the AR trade. So my prediction is JD will trade down to secure another couple of picks this year - maybe another second and a third or something along those lines. Getting a 2024 first round pick would be quite an achievement given the Jets draft position though…..
If this year's draft were deeper maybe. After the top 10, most players are a coin flip through 30 or so. Hard to envision a team loving a player so much they would cough up a 1 next year. But you never know.
