Good defensive coordinator but a bad coach, 2 years in and the team is still making dumbass boneheaded killer penalty's. He shoulda taken Zack Wilson out of the New England Game and cost us a win. Can't realize that Flacco is 20 years past his prime and is dressing him, why was Flacco dressed and not Zack Wilson? Flacco with the pathetic fumbles changed momentum huge. Put both Mims and Moore in the doghouse who clearly showed they can ball out, and shoulda just conceded the game today when we were down 2 touchdowns and not let Mike White back on the field. Mike White may be the longterm Qb now and your putting him out on the field to keep getting killed when he got broken ribs when your down 2 touchdowns? This is almost as bad as the Dolphins letting Tua play concussed. Good coaches find ways to win winnable games, bad coaches find ways to lose winnable games. Saleh cost us 2-4 games this season.
For the last 3 weeks every radio show in New York has been raising the question why is Flacco being dressed over Zack Wilson, well today it cost us bigtime. Zack Wilson sucks but he is better than flacco. Oh yeah almost forgot not punting the ball out of bounds to New England another butt fumble by Saleh
You have truly an unhealthy obsession toward Saleh. He has helped raised this team where they are. He is still adjusting but he is a great coach and we can see improvement. As for your point Zach is punished and need a head shake. Flacco is more experienced and he is ok as a backup. This argument is grasping at straws.
Huh? Everyone involved (including Mann) said that the plan was to kick it high and out of bounds. Mann then proceeded to kick it low and up the middle. It is somehow Saleh's fault that Mann totally screwed up?
Flacco is awful, there is a reason why no team but the Jets wants him, he shoulda retired 5 years ago. Joe Douglas is the reason why the team is where it is today, great trades and great draft class. Saleh is holding this team back. We Now turned the offense around to atleast where it is competent and were still losing how? Elite defense with good offense now and were still losing games how is that possible? If the Jets lose next game they will be 7-7 .500 thats a major dissapointment for this team given its talent and thats on Saleh.
Would love to be delusional enough to believe a banged up Jets team marches into MIN and BUF and wins both games against two very good first place teams, but reality always seems to have a way of spoiling the party. The Jets having a chance to win or tie both the MIN & BUF games on the final possession shows they are definitely on the right track and can play with anyone. If Zach was the QB in these last two games, Jets lose by at least 20 points in each game. As for Zach being elevated to backup status on the roster, thanks, but no thanks. Having exorcised the word "quit" from their vocabulary, Jets have shown resilience and have been prepared to play on a weekly basis. And after all that, would you believe a shitty punt which does not go out of bounds says more about Saleh's coaching ability than how he prepares the team for a game? And if that's not bad enough, Saleh dares to discipline a couple of players in an effort to try and guide them into becoming mature productive professionals. What's next? Saleh trying to earn the respect of his players? How dare he! The trajectory of this Jets team reminds one of the San Francisco 49ers of 1979, 1980 and 1981 when they went 2-14, 6-10 and 13-3 (Super Bowl Champs) respectively. The 1980 Niners 6-10 team did not make the playoffs, but they were much better than the previous season's team most due to the arrival of a guy named Joe Montana. The point being that 6-10 team had plenty of "moral victories", which the team learned from and used it to win a Super Bowl the following season, ushering in their legendary dynasty teams of the '80s.
The 2 New England Games, Minn, Buffalo, and Maybe even Cincy were winnable games and this team lost them all. Like I said Good coaches find ways to win winnable games, bad coaches find ways to lose winnable games. To say the very least Saleh lost us 2 games this season and the team is still taking the dumbest penalties I ever seen in my life which reflects on the coach.
Compared to my expectations from the end of last season and this off season, this team is at least a year--more like two years-- ahead of schedule. I thought they'd be lucky to win more than 4 games this year. But sure, here we are at 7 wins and going toe to toe with some of the best teams in the NFL and it's the pit of hell. I guess.
Good post Joe. Although in fairness the Jets played Minnie with a pretty healthy squad. We still had a damned good shot on both minus mistakes that killed us.
I don't disagree with much in your post but the Jets had 1 player on the injury report today. Everybody is banged up this time of year.
Saleh is a young first time HC Yes, he has made some rookie mistakes, but the team is ahead of schedule and more competitive than most expected. The key will be does he learn and grow as a HC? You need to give him time in order to know that.
