Here is the only one worth readin IMO... Bollinger likely expendable due to surplus of Jets' QBs Thursday, May 4, 2006 By RANDY LANGE STAFF WRITER What about Brooks? That's a question worth asking about the Jets' quarterback depth chart after the club drafted Oregon's Kellen Clemens in Round 2 and Missouri's Brad Smith in Round 4. It's possible that Brooks Bollinger, who played inspirationally if imperfectly as the QB of last resort last season, has a future in the NFL but not with the Jets. This summer the Jets may have to consider trading or releasing Bollinger, who is scheduled to make $500,000 in base pay in the final year of his contract. General manager Mike Tannenbaum said Bollinger is not being shown the green door. "Stockpiling quarterbacks is good business," Tannenbaum said after the draft. "We have four quarterbacks on our active roster, and this is not to say any one of them is on the block or we're going to cut anyone. We now have better depth at the position." But the reps there are suddenly at a premium. The four QBs referred to are Chad Pennington, Patrick Ramsey, Bollinger and Clemens. The first three are participating in the team's conditioning program. (Pennington will be ready to throw at a passing camp in late May and a full-squad minicamp in mid-June.) Kliff Kingsbury, the backup QB for Cologne in NFL Europe, is also on the roster. And Clemens and Smith report May 12 for the rookie minicamp that will be Eric Mangini's first as Jets' coach. Smith will start out as a wide receiver, but he has stated his long-range goal is to play quarterback in the NFL. The Jets, agent Mark Bartelstein told the Columbia (Mo.) Daily Tribune, are "a really interesting place for Brad. Obviously it's a new regime. They want to do a lot of creative, innovative things. I think they're looking at him as both a playmaker and a quarterback." Neither Bollinger nor his agent was available for comment. But Bollinger, despite his 2-7 starting record and 72.9 passer rating, had some eye-opening moments leading the injury-ravaged Jets to near-comebacks against Atlanta and San Diego and December wins over Oakland and Buffalo. Drew Brees, then the Chargers' QB, praised Bollinger's heart, and Denver coach Mike Shanahan said, "I think he's got a big upside." But it remains to be seen whether Bollinger will get to show more of that heart and upside as a Jet. AMONG FRIENDS: Virginia inside linebacker Bryan White (6-1, 237) has been signed as an undrafted free agent. White will feel at home, since he was college teammates with the Jets' top draft pick, D'Brickashaw Ferguson – both graduated a year ago with degrees in religious studies – and defensive end Brennan Schmidt, also an undrafted signee. And White graduated from Webb School in Knoxville, Tenn., Pennington's high school. http://www.northjersey.com/page.php...lRUV5eTY5MjkzNzMmeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2
Brooks could net us a 5th or 6th round pick from some team in need of a backup with starting experience. Kingsbury will likely be released if he isn't still eligable for the PS.
