Couple months back I turned down a job with the Jets to take the one I'm at now. The job I have now is located in Florham Park, NJ. I heard the Jets are moving their HQ to Florham Park, can anyone substantiate this for me? I couldn't do the commute to Hofstra everyday, but it would be an interesting opportunity for me if they were to move to FP.
If all goes as expected the NYJs will be existing in Florham Park NJ. Shock U work there & do not know of this. It has to be a major project there
They literally told me "We won't pay you enough for how much work you do, the hours are horrendous...6 days/week during the season...and you'll hate football by the end". The former, I didn't have a problem with, but the commute would have been impossible and I couldn't move to LI. PS - I heard about it in Florham Park but didn't believe it to be true. The land is actually down the road from me. I'm on Vreeland road cross section Columbia turnpike, and it is off Columbia turnpike I heard. PPS - I live in Northern Bergen Country and the commute here still sucks. I had to augment my hours to 7.5am-4.5pm so I miss traffic, it's so bad down here.
You should go back to them now and demand at least what Pace got - it's only fair. $22 million guaranteed. Seriously though, I'm a writer myself and writers never get paid enough. People who write tend to do so because they've always wanted to be a writer, so they put up with crap pay and potential employers are able to say ridiculous things like 'we won't pay you enough for how much work you do'. I've worked in jobs where others have come along and literally offered to work FOR NOTHING because 'they really want to get into writing'. It used to make me furious. However, if I were you I would do everything I could to make that job happen - what an experience it would be, if only for a short time until you needed to, you know, earn some money to pay bills and eat. My first job was as a writer on a football paper - the pay was terrible and I could only scratch along for a couple of years, but it was great being immersed in the sport full-time. Keep us posted on this!
i know what you mean about bad pay for writers. i'm a tech writer for ibm and bearly made $100k last year. i did some freelance work (for a robotics firm) that paid $100/hr, which is almost twice what ibm pays me. sheesh.
Where the hell have you been? They announced Florham Park over a year ago. The only reason there was a vacancy is probably because some poor guy just like you who lived in Hempstead didn't want the same schlepp over to Jersey every day. I hope for your sake the job isn't filled, but it probably is. You'd be in on the ground floor by now and probably had a good chance to work your way up in the organization from there.
The rule of thumb seems to be - the more interesting the writing, the less you'll get paid for it. It reaches its ultimate point when you write a novel and get paid absolutely nothing! Still, there's nothing like suffering for your art...
While we're on the topic, Queens/Nassau >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Florham Park Yes, I'm still bitter about it.
