https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39708409/sources-eagles-bryce-huff-reach-3-year-511m-contract I hate this F/O. The disarray of this franchise prevents it from keeping talent it cultivated.
Yeah the money for Huff doesn’t sound exorbitant to me…if JD really wanted to he could have kept him…and then could even have tried to trade McDonald if he felt we had too many DEs…a guy on a rookie contract, or he could have gone to JFM and restructured or traded…that’s a guy who’s pretty good all around, not great, and just unfortunately seems to have a penchant for drawing penalties at the worst times… Honestly I would have preferred to move on from JFM and keep Huff and McD But hey, that’s why the Eagles are a perennial playoff team and we’re not. Not sure I understand why Giants let Saquon go…he was basically their offense and a two way threat…I get he’s gotten some injuries but man, he is dynamic. And to see him go to the Eagles and come back and hurt them…ouch that won’t be fun for them…
It's just speaks into how there literally is NO PLAN on how to build a franchise and how ineptly prepared this entire franchise is at every level of the front office to compete. It's why the Jets are perennial bottom feeders...
Hard to get dumber when they can't be categorized as smart at any point - Lucky occasionally (cus even a broken clock is right twice a day), but not smart...
Here's my thinking on the loss of Huff. The Jets defensive coaching staff is great. They coach up players and they will do it again this season. MacDonald and JJ will likely improve and maybe they'll sign another pass rusher who will over-perform with the Jets. I'm more concerned about the offense b/c they need a lot of help and they seem to coach down players.
Yeah, after I talked myself off the ledge this is what I thought as well. If you're JD do you invest in a position where you're already pretty deep or do you spend every penny addressing the Offense which was totally broken and probably will be again even with Rodgers on the field.
Incredibly, they just might be. Over the past year they've managed to somehow lower a bar that you couldn't previously have gotten an ant to crawl underneath.
How did they do first year here without much talent? This defense is predicated on talent, it's not really creative schematically, and we need to pray McD can step-up. If not I think it will be hard to generate pass rush, and the defense will get a lot worse than what you have seen. Particularly if there is an injury to some key players, who managed to stay healthy last two years.
I am surprised every time. Just when I was getting a little bit of hope by the Jets making the obvious small moves, they blow a big one.
The writing was on the wall for this insanity when we made our first round pick last year, especially while needing players at several other positions. Another absolutely incredible move (or lack of a move, in this case) by our illustrious GM. And people continue to wonder why nobody wants to play or be drafted by the Jets. We don't take care of our own.
Sometimes you have to let veteran guys go in order to get younger. This is why Douglas replaced 25 year old Bryce Huff with (checks notes) 24 year old Will McDonald.
And then the day after that celebration we can mark our calendars for 4 years later to celebrate the next time Woody blows it up.
Then why not trade him for something at the deadline if you know you aren’t going to sign him and your season is lost anyway?
