I personally think it's likely at this point. He's got one year left on his deal and the organization will want to know what they have in him.
This thread is going to be annihilated soon by people who hate Geno Smith. I wouldn't be that surprised or upset. He now has essentially a year and a half spent on the bench watching, which he desperately needed coming out of college. It's an interesting dynamic that he has: a year and a half of starting then a year and a half sitting and presumably learning from his mistakes. The coaching staff was supposedly very high on him and he was supposedly having a good training camp. I don't think it would be the worst thing in the world to give him the beginning of the year to see how much he's grown and then pulling him for Petty (who'd them have over a year on the bench) if he doesn't show marked improvement. All the same arguments from last year (new playmakers, coaches, etc) still apply. It's gonna be messy no matter what if we lose Fitz.
The man had a perfect QB rating in that game in 2014. If he can do that 15-20 times in 2016, I smell Super Bowl!
Not optimistic. On one hand, Geno wasn't put in a position to succeed by starting immediately on a Rex Ryan-led team with zero offensive weapons. But on the other hand, he didn't show much promise other than a strong arm, which is useless when you don't have the other traits to be a successful quarterback. Traits that he did not show. But how would he do now with some experience with Gailey and some really good receivers? I would say there's a 10-20% chance at best he is our starter opening day. If we don't re-sign Fitz, I think there is a strong chance we bring in someone like Kaepernick or RG3. If we don't bring in one of those guys I bet we draft another QB in rounds 1-4 and have a competition among Geno, Bryce, and the rookie. This is shaping up to be a very interesting offseason.
i'd be ok with it honestly most people forget, but geno was the starter before he got his shit handed to him by IK. it was year 3 for him and i'm sure ghan was doing wonders for him
I wouldn't be thrilled but I wouldn't call it a disaster either. It is what it is. We are cash strapped and about to lose Mo and Fitzy. With Mo and Fitz and Snacks and Powell, we missed play offs. To me, signing them all while keeping the status quo wouldn't guarantee a play off spot next year either. Titans, Texans, Giants, Cowboys etc will now be replaced by Cardinals, Seahawks, Bengals, Steelers, Ravens etc. Next year was gonna be tough any way. So I wouldn't be devastated to see what Geno could do with Gailey, Marshall and Decker. If it went well, then all good. If not, at least we aren't cash strapped for future years and we will be picking high again to have a shot at a top QB next year.
I'd be upset considering the disaster he's been on and off the field. Of course, if he were to play well, I'd change my mind about him.
He wont. So no point in wondering what my feelings about it would be. But if in some weird universe he was , I would give him 4 games to prove something , then I'd root for a tankjob.
Not a fan of Geno, but do not want them giving huge money to Fitz under any circumstances. If Fitz want's Bradford money, then I say let him go and if Geno is the best we have so be it
I would just assume the Jets aren't interested in making the playoffs and write off the team until the GM eventually got fired.
