I was lucky enough to remember watching Joe. Nice find GM. I miss Cosell "You can't blitz the Jets and you can't blitz Namath" I watched something they had on the NFL network yesterday, where they were talking to Sauer (?) and why he just upped and quit football all together. Very interesting.
This should teach younger quarterbacks, that you CAN use the middle of the field in a two minute drill. Just because time is running out, you can't limit yourselves to outs, and hitches.

Two things to note... 1. Curt Gowdy, what a voice... 2. I'm 36 yrs old so I do not remember seeing him in person, but the quick release of Namath is absoloutely amazing. I'd throw out my elbow if I tried that..Marino was quick, but, with all biases set aside, he was not as fast as Namath..
Being only 18, I had only seen highlights of Joe Willie throughout my lifetime, and of course the entirety of Super Bowl III.. But every time I see him I am more and more amazed at that CANNON arm he had... Since I have been an avid fan of football (nearly my whole lifetime) I have not seen a QB who could throw nearly as hard, fast, or as accurately as Namath with such a quick release.
I was long after Namath's time also, but his release is simply amazing. We can see that a quarterbacks will probably never be able to release the ball on a deep pass as quick as him. Look at Byron Leftwich. The guy has an absolute cannon, but he has to windup completely.

This is my first post. I grew up idolizing Joe Willie, and I can tell you he was a hell of a quarterback. I really don't think he gets the credit he deserves. He was the first QB to throw for 4000 yards in a season. He played in an era where the defense had the advantage with regards to how the game was officiated, and thus offensive production was harder to acheive. I really think that a healthy Joe Willie, in this era of football, would set some amazing passing records. Anyway, he really was awesome.
Namath, the HUGE number 1 overall pick, shocked the Football world when he chose to sign with the upstart NY Jets in the upstart league. No one expected that. He gave the AFL instant credibility. It would be like Reggie Bush signing with some team in the XFL, and then that team beating the Bears/Colts/NE (take your pic) in the SuperBowl as 17 point dogs. Has there ever been a bigger point spread in SuperBowl history than SuperBowl 3?
As is usually the case, one can find different lines on the same game. Usually I see the Super Bowl 3 line to be listed as 18 points. If not 18, then 17. Super Bowl 1 had a 17 point line. Green Bay covered the spread. Super Bowl 29 had a line of 18 points. San Francisco covered it.
