Looking at the matchup between our O and Indy's D I am wondering if our base Offense can generate enough points against a speedy Colts D? They will know that we will try to run the ball and nevertheless I assume we need to score 20+ points to win this game. Our arguably biggest win in PIT came in a game where he ran a kickoff back and had a safety to make it a 5 point game. So my question is if you guys think that we need a ST TD, maybe a Brad Smith or LT pass (his career stats show that he can do it) play etc. ? Also Id like to know if you think that we should take some risks here - this also relates to our gameplan (take shots down the field, pass ot run ratio etc.)..... So whats your take?
At least 14. Nah I think we can beat them without any trickery if we don't shoot ourselves in the foot with turnovers and dropped passes.
I don't think we need that stuff vs the Colts. The Jets can just line up and beat them I think.. More important than trick plays would be getting some stops on defense and covering Jacob Tamme.
No trickery needed. We just need to mixup the play calling on offense, go with a lot of short passes and let our guys make plays, and not be predictable.
if Schotty feels he needs to implement a myriad of trickery to get it done against the Colts' vanilla defense......we're fucked. Sanchez needs to hand off the ball, make accurate throws and not cause any turnovers.....not perform card tricks behind the LOS.
I'm sure we have an LT pass ready to go. We're waiting for the right time to use it. That said, our offense is going to be able to get some points. Colts give up a lot of yards up the middle and we like to run up the middle. Colts have terrible special teams, we have a top-3 special teams. They're going to have to stack 8 to stop the run since they're a smallish defense. That's when you break out the play-action and hit a long one. I think 24 isn't a stretch. Question is, can we win with that?
If we play strong fundamentals we we win the game. Cover the receivers, make the tackle, don't drop the goddamn ball. I'd like to see some misdirection plays, especially if if the Colts sell out on the pass rush. We don't do it too much, but it's often successful. If we get the ball first, I wouldn't be surprised to see a long pass on first down.
they won't need trickery -- they will have brad smith run a few plays and the return game will be solid. The punting will be strong as it has been the last couple of weeks, but the Jets base O should do well in the game. Colts are fast but the Jets are physical. All the speed in the world doesn't do much when you are lying on the ground or being directed to deep to make a play. I just don't see this being a close game.
Every sane Jets fan knows we don't need the trickery.....the problem is....trickery is Schotty's security blanket. He can't suck his thumb without it.
Exactly. Keep the defense off-balance, but I don't think we need to resort to trickery. Edwards has burned this secondary before. Holmes will abuse their cornerbacks. Cotchery on their 3rd CB will be a plus for us. The Colts are usually solid against the tight end, but the injuries have taken a toll there, too. We just need to keep moving the chains. Hopefully, we break open a big play or two, but even if we don't get the huge play to work, if we can move the ball early, I think we can get some confidence, and run the ball hard with Shonn Greene in the 2nd half.
i heard rex talk yesterday about how the Jets will win if they can hold Indy to 7 possessions as did the saints last year.
Is the Wildcat with Brad Smith considered trickery because we are quite effective vs certain defenses.
The pass rush needs to step up for this game. Greene should be able to get it going, Indys run D can be exploited.
