Would never have noticed if I didn't see the meme, but this is mind-boggling.

How often have they been inside the 5 yard line?

I hadn't thought about it, but if they were inside the 5 yard line even once (which they were, just a mere two weeks ago), no RB carries is criminal.

Have you seen the O-line open a running lane anywhere on the field this year? Why would anyone think they could do so in the most congested part of the field?

Not saying they'd have gotten anywhere, and the stat wasn't about gaining yards. It's about no carries at all.

So they either haven't been there (they have, but they go backwards) or they haven't, for whatever reason, given the RB the ball. Then again, we're probably talking about, what, 3 trips at most?

Hackett = red zone guru. He even had a cute segment on Hard Knocks about it

Of course there is a stat for everything so I went digging. Couldn't find the 5 yd. line exactly but not sure that it matters once you see this stat:

The Jets, in 2023, average 2.8 trips into the red zone per game. Slightly UP from 2.7 in 2022. That's just freakin' disgusting criminal. I mean, who cares if a RB gets a carry from within the 5 yd. line if you are only there less than 3 times a damn game! Completely blown away.

I guess I could have taken it a step further and seen how many times they have made it to the RZ only to be knocked out of the RZ by a stupid penalty. I'm sure we LEAD the league in that particular stat.

It all goes together-- team never gets to the red zone, much less inside the 5, so why squander any of the few snaps they get there trying to run the ball when A) the Defense has a tiny field to protect, and B) the O-line has shown zero capability of opening a run lane even when the Defense had reason to be spread out.

Also, for what it's worth, the stat may be only technically accurate:
    • the FB Nick Bawden ran one in from the 1 against NE.
    • Hall had a TD run from the Vegas 3 that got negated by penalty
    • PFF shows that Dalvin Cook had a 4 yard rush from the KC 5 yard line. Maybe not "inside the 5"? Folllowed immedately by Wilson TD pass to Uzomah.
But most times the Jets don't get that close, and if they do, they're kind enough to take a penalty or a sack and quickly extricate themselves from threatening the other team.

Less than 3 times a game? Sure feels more like once every 3 games

All great points, so it's really just click bait that represents how inept the offense has been. As I said in the subject line, it's rhetorical but I did think it was true. I wasn't surprised by it, but I did believe it.

Yeah, we have had 1 st and goal inside the ten and ended with a fg because they tried to throw every down a few times.

They say completing passes in the red zone is one of the hardest things for young/bad QBs to do

When you get close to the goal line you definitely don't want to be running anyway. Nor do you want to risk throwing the ball into the end zone. What you want to do in those situations is throw the ball short of the line and then just let good things happen.

    Its called strategy.

And we perfected the "don't throw into the end zone" playbook!
