PLAYERS OFFICIALLY CUT: (for now 20, need 22)

    DL: Richardson, Tevaseu (MTV), Roy
    LB: Sapp, Dowtin
DB: Fletcher, Posey, Lewis, Lynn, Steed

    OL: Cornick, Koloto, Kroul, Griffin
    RB: Ganaway
    WR: Collins, Pollard, Riley, White
    TE: Lloyd
    QB: Simms

    PK: Lanning

First, the players who are 100% sure to make the team (barring injury or unexpected trade). [42 players]

    Offense (19):
    QB: Sanchez, Tebow, McElroy (3)

WR: Hill, Schilens, Holmes, Kerley (4)
    TE: Keller, Cumberland (2)

OT: Ferguson, Howard, J. Smith (3)
    OG/C: Slauson, Moore, Mangold (3)

    RB: Greene, McKnight, Powell (3)
    FB: Conner (1)

I won't discuss the obivous ones. The less obvious ones are McElroy (I think he's earned it, let's see wk 4 but he is the perfect backup), Cumberland (shortage of healthy TEs and the CS is high on him, plus he said he'll be ready for WK 1), Schilens (contract guaranteed) and the backup RBs (but I think there won't be any upgrade available on the last day of cuts, McKnight is solid on ST and Powell is sound in pass pro). The injury to Baker also assured Conner of a spot.

    Defense (20):
DT: Pouha, DeVito, Ellis, Dixon (4)
    DE: Wilkerson, Coples (2)

ILB: Harris, Scott, Davis, Mauga (4)
    OLB: Pace, Thomas, Maybin (3)

    CB: Revis, Cromartie, Wilson (3)
    S: Landry, Bell, E. Smith, Bush (4)

Only players debatable in here are Dixon (who might be traded since he's buried on the depth chart) and Mauga (but he's our best LB in coverage).

    ST (3):
K: Folk P: Conley LS: Purdum

Conley might be upgraded but who knows. Let's assume we're set and not talk punters.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If 42 spots on the roster are already certain it means that 11 are still up for grabs.

    Offense (+4):
WR: Turner is pretty much locked in to be the 5th WR. However who knows, maybe we go after someone who makes us better in the red zone (Plaxico?), or maybe we bring in a veteran. Maybe the CS likes rookie Jordan White more. I don't think this team will carry more than 5 WRs though...
Prediction -> Turner as the 5th WR (+1)

TE: Can one of our backup TEs win the 3rd spot? Unless someone shines in wk 4 I don't think so. It makes a lot more sense to pick someone up after final cuts, be it a vet or a young guy. Of course, this TE wil be a blocking specialist!
Prediction -> don't know who but we'll pick up a blocking specialist as 3rd TE. (+1)

OL: This is tricky. Do we keep 7 or 8? We don't have any T on the roster worth keeping but maybe we'll want to bring in someone as insurance for untested Howard and injury prone Smith. As G/C Ducasse, Schaluderaff and Griffin appear to be competing for 1 or 2 spots.
Slauson has played some C and T too, so his versatility may facilitate the decision.
Prediction -> Ducasse and Griffin stay. If there's an injury to both Ts or the C Slasuon covers it and one of the backups plays at LG. (+2)

RB: Has Ganaway done enough (anything) to stick on the roster? All we know is he's still behind Powell in the CS eyes. Will there be some better RB available after final cuts? This will be a ST decision as well.
    Prediction -> no idea.

    Defense (+6):
DL: Do we keep a 7th lineman? Has someone between MTV, Harrison (NT/DTs)and Richardson (DE) shown enough to win the job? In terms of ideal roster composition we might need a DE more than a NT/DT since Pouha, DeVito, Ellis, Coples and Dixon can all play inside in the 4-3, but Richardson is the one that has shown less out of the ones mentioned above.
Could it be we cut all 3 and go after one of the DEs cut by deep teams like the Eagles?
Prediction -> No effing idea but I think in the end we'll have 7 DL. (+1)

LB: Personally I think we'll keep McIntyre. However Bellore is also a solid player on D and a standout on ST. Sapp was intriguing but he spent to much time injured.
Prediction -> McIntyre stays as the 8th LB. Bellore and Sapp cut. (+1)

CB: Lankster and Trufant are near locks to make the roster, especially for their play on ST. I like Posey as a CB and hope he sticks around. If Marquice Cole doesn't get cut by the Patriots I see all three making the team.
S: Has Allen done enough to earn a roster spot? His play on wk 4 will tell... I do see him sticking around.
Prediction -> Lankster, Trufant, Posey and Allen all make the final 53. (+4)

In this scenario 52 roster spot are taken, leaving one available either for a RB (Ganaway?), a versatile/ST guy (Bellore?) or someone else we really like.

I think Jordan White could make the team over Schilens or Turner.

    nice work....thanks!

The instant Baker went down last night in the EZ Tanny got on the phone with his assistant and told him to cancel his mtg with Conner.

I think that Bellore makes it, since he can fill 2 roster spots (backup ILB and FB in case something happens to Conner) in addition to being good on STs

I want Jordan White around to push Jeremy Kerley as a receiver.

Schilens was the guy I had more doubts in putting in with the "100% certain" guys. His contract is guaranteed and he has shown he can do things in this league but he's sooo injury prone. Also his game and Hill's are similar (Schilens is more polished but Hill is more physical). The fact they gtd him 90% of the contract though makes me think he will at least be kept thorugh the first weeks of the season to see what he can actually do.

As for Turner he seems to have a good on the field relationship with Sanchez, this is why I think he gets the nod over White.

I liked the little I saw from White... I hope he sticks on the PS and maybe he'll get a chance further down the road.
Who knows, maybe he tears it up in wk 4 and makes it impossible for the CS to cut him. Wouldn't mind him being our Victor Cruz!

Thanks! Haha agreed... but now Conner has to step his game up. He's a hard hitter but he needs to be smarter and also get better in catching the ball.
I'm so pissed Baker got hurt... I think he would've been a really valuable contributor for us with this new offense.

I like Bellore's game and think Westhoff will push hard to keep him. The fact he's been training as a backup FB also will help him. However, I couldn't justify his stay over the other 8 guys at LB.
He is better than Mauga on ST but Mauga is good in coverage and god knows how much we need that from our ILBs going against the new breed of TEs.
As for McIntyre he is also a beast on ST and OLB is more of a need than ILB.

We'll see... I'm sure he'll catch on with another team if he doesn't make it with the Jets...

I think we need an extra OL. Jason Smith in injury prone with concussion history. Mangold gets knocked around every once in a while for a few plays or drives. Slauson also showed some health concerns last year. And we really use 6 OL every game, so I think we go 9 OL on the roster. Thats not a lot for 5 starting spots.

I would like to see what we have in Jordan. I think he's got great potential and probably won't make it to the practice or last there. I haven't seen much from Allen though but considering we don't have a starting safety signed for 2013, he might make the team based on that fact alone. We'll find out I guess. Some real tough calls all around...as always.

There was talk that Schillens won't make it because he hasn't been healthy but i guess with his contract, he may stick around. I think the Jets will carry 6 WR's, especially with the injury concerns so far with Holmes, Kerley, Schillens early on.

Smith, Ducasse make it with Schladeraff and Griffin vying for the last spot.

Lankster and Trufant make it, have a feeling Posey won't (though i like him).
Allen makes it with the safety rotation.

    McIntyre and Bellore make it.

Richardson makes it, MTV just misses out, Harrison too (PS).

I got 52 there, so the last spot will most likely be a blocking TE....

We pretty much need to bring in another TE that can actually block. I would love for us to somehow get a capable RB (been saying this for a little while, 6th/7th for Chris Ivory) and possibly a vet receiver and I think we will be okay.

With Smith added our OL is in somewhat better shape. #2 TE, #2 WR and #2 RB remain a big question mark for me. Hill is very raw and I hope he can contribute and be a plus player immediately, but Im not sure.

He's a starter and he's never been questioned. He's average imo.
Still pissed at Tannenbaum for making him take a 0.2 mill cut... was it really necessary?

The problem with putting 5 all-pros on the OL is that you'll also need to dish out all-pro $$ five times. That's not gonna happen for any football team.

Slauson holds it down between a solid LT & a great C & Slauson does it with a very small cap hit. Unless Jets are looking to replace him with somebody on a rookie contract, he shouldn't be touched.

Schlauderaff(sp?) makes this team because he can/has been playing center. They saw last year what life was like when they put all their eggs in the mangold basket and he got hurt. Schlad can be that 6th lineman when they go short yardage too.

    Offensive line:

Ferguson, Slauson, Moore, Mangold, Howard, Smith, Schlauderaff, and then I bet they grab someone else off the waiver wire.

Ducasse cut, Griffin cut but possibly practice squad.

    After the 4th preseason game:

    Good:
    - McIntyre made the team. That's final.

    - Bellore impressed, he's all out efort and relentless. Will it be enough to take Mauga's spot (after all Davis is a fast LB so he can play Mauga's position).

    - Riley made a case to make the roster over Schilens and White.

    - Richardson has probably made this team. Played realy well.

    Bad:
    - Our backup RBs fucking suck. I thought Ganaway was better than Powell...

    - WTF Conner?

    - Our 4th and 5th CBs look shit.

after listening to Tanny in the CBS booth, we are pretty much guaranteed to be making a shitload of claims after teams start releasing guys.

So the final 53 isn't really final. We are going to cut 2 or 3 later anyway

Im really concerned about our depth at CB, but then again Lankster is out and has supposedly had a very good camp. If a decent vet was cut from another team, I would not be surprised if we picked him up.

I really like Richardson, also Damon Harrison has looked better than MTV. Hopefully Richardson makes the team and if not Harrison, hopefully he is on the PS.

I am really disappointed in our RBs. They looked decent, but honestly nothing that would make me feel comfortable giving them 100-125 carries (which is something we need). If either Ivory or Travis Caddet from the Saints get cut we should jump all over that.

Also, I was expecting more from Maybin, especially more pass rush moves.

Thing to remember about the 4th pre-season game. A number of these guys, even though they aren't starters, know or have been told they'll make the roster. I've heard that often in those cases where a players been told they've made the team they've also been told to play, but play slow so as to avoid injury.

Not saying that's true, but when one thinks about it if a player has made the squad it would be the teams best interest not to have them get hurt. then again they say if you don't play at full speed your more likely to get hurt.

It must really suck being a rookie/walkon this time of year.

"MOM!!!! DAD!!!! I MADE THE 53!!!! I'M IN!!!!!! Tell Dad he can build his Man Room now!!!" Hold on...Tanny's calling. "Um mom? Dad? Is my bedroom still available?

    Dad: ".....ahh fuck".

Wow, Richardson cut... that's a surprise! I thought he played really solid yesterday.

Nothing is 100 percent certain, but I've been told the Jets' plan as of right now is to keep fullback John Conner. #nyj
