Ok, we all saw that one occasion where Ngata killed him and ran straight into Sanchez... that was bad. But aside from that how did he play? I never pay too much attention to the OL play (unless it's shown on a replay) so I'm not able to have an informed opinion... but all in all I think he played ok. We ran the ball well considering who we were up against and he pretty much contained pressure from the left side. And Ngata plays there, not my grandma (hail grandma ). Anyone has a more informed opinion? PS D'brick got blown for two holding penalties... did they have anything to do with Slauson possibly missing his assignments?
I Thought he was solid but Haloti Ngata is a big beast of a man, That shit happens sometimes when your 1 on 1.
Yeah that one play is the only time his name was called, so that's a good thing when it comes to O-line No one should be expected to block Nagata 1 on 1 anyway, that protection issue should have been identified and accounted for. I'm not sure who's responsibility is to make that check.
I saw him get pancaked on one play, but overall he did a good job. Sanchez had plenty of time to throw.
One thing I'll say about the O-line as a whole and our pass blocking in general: We blitzed significantly more than the Ravens did, and yet we only put 4 hits and 2 sacks on Flacco on 40+ passing plays. The Ravens had 4 hits and 2 sacks on just over 20 passing plays. That has to change on both sides of the ball.
He played relatively well being that it was his first NFL start, and it was against the Ravens. Don't listen to idiots like Brandon Tierny who said he played "TERRRRIBLE", he was fine. Off topic...Faneca looked terrible for the Cards..
I wouldn't say he had plenty of time to throw. I thought, as a whole, the OL had their worst game in years. On that play where Slauson got pancaked by Ngata I noticed Mangold was helping Moore handle Kelly Gregg. Why on Earth would we double-team Gregg and single Ngata? That had to be a mistake.
Last year someone, I think it was WSW, did a breakdown on D'Brick's performance on a play by play basis for a good part of last year. Maybe we can promise him some vHooker action to do it for Slauson?
He was okay. I still don't understand why they didn't have Sanchez rolling out and throwing down the field. That would have helped the OL and Sanchez. Instead Schotty had him standing back there in the pocket and rushing his passes. Overall Sanchez seemed to have plenty of time to deliver the ball and the OL was okay in protection.
I had mentioned earlier that I thought Mangold screwed up his blocking assignment call on that play. I also looked at that play again, and Slauson got his feet crossed, basically, he stumbled and was off balance. Ngata rag dolled him. Physical mistakes can happen. What I liked from Slauson was that he played smart, no real mental mistakes of note. Suggs was able to get several pressures against both Brick and Woody. The RB's did not do a very good job with Suggs either. Sanchez had some time, and got pressured a few times, but he felt pressure before it actually arrived too.
The play where Ngata ran him over was the only time I noticed him out there, so I assume he was fairly solid throughout. I thought he was very solid in preseason, so to me the weakness at LG seemed a little overblown. As a whole, however, our O-line has to get better.
Hahahaha. He was solid exactly what you'd expect from a 2nd year player getting his first regular season start.
