Come the start of next season I feel really confident that we will have a good team of players that can challenge for the AFC east.
After witnessing last years campaign you cannot fail to anything other than impressed.

Both Tannenbaum and Mangini have both excelled themselves and shown that they have what it takes to move this team in the right direction , and not just by going out and signing big name players. But by building a team through skill ,character and confidence, something which in recent years we have been lacking in.

The draft has yet to happen and I believe that we will be clever and precise in who we draft , filling some of the needs and adding depth.
How confident are you that come the start of the season we will have a team that will be competing for the AFC honours?

Why are you confident we can challange for the division title? New England has gotten much better already and they aren't done yet. They have a tone of draft picks including 2 firsts. We don't even have a 4th at all. We did get better at RB but that's all. Our schedule is the 6th hardest in the NFL this year compared to one of the easiest last year. I just don't see anyway we are ready to compete with them with our current team.

I'm much more confident with the FO, but as we saw with Barlow, they are far from perfect. Going for inexpensive talent and building from the ground up is a long process, and I think we did some overachieving in Mangini's rookie year, but there's a long offseason including a draft where they can continue a path so success or take a step back. The big picture is not even close to being revealed and they have a long way to go.

BUT... with the types of deals we see like the Jones trade and the Washington 2nd-round-pick-HEIST, I do have very high hopes for Tanny. Mangini, well, I think the sky is the limit. As much as I'd like to say that Mangini and staff can overcome personnel deficiencies with coaching, we don't have Tom Brady. God how I hate Tom Brady.

I still have the Schlegel pick, and then those couple of turnovers/tds he gave up... but it usually takes alot for me to fully trust team management anyway.

Simply , I believe that Mangini gets the best from his players by getting them to buy into his philosophy. We saw the results of that last year.
So the Pats have gone out and spent big time , who says thats a recipe for success? Maybe all those egos won't get along.

Lets face it, Father Time is clicking pretty loud in Pat's country. Every linebacker they have is over 32 years old. The sands are shifting and changing to green. Its not happening overnight but its most definitely coming..tick-tock-tick-tock. I have never in my life had more confidence in the GM and HC positions of the New York Jets then I do now..NEVER. I keep expecting the Chicago cops to show up at Hempstead and arrest those two for STEALING Thomas Jones. Close the shades guys and act like no one's there..hahahaha

I'm as confident with this CS/FO as I've been since the Parcells era. It feels like a whole new organization. From the savvy FO moves, to the coach that has a different gameplan every week, to the flag girls running around on the field. I know it's just the offseason, but you get the feeling that the term "same old Jets" probably wont be tossed around too much anymore.

I wish Leon Hess was still alive. He was totally committed to the team. I just don't see that in Johnson.

Thomas is 27 and Hartwell(if they do it) is 28. They have signed Welker and may sign Stallworth. The point is they are addressing their needs. They may be in for 4 compensatory draft picks too, added on to what they already have. I just don't see how we are catching up.

OK if that is what U believe. While I am no fan of Woody for sure at least from many years of NYJ fandom he got Hess beat by a long shot. Go dig up the tape of JWN getting his HOF ring at halftime of a MNF game & see what 80,000 fans thought of Hess when his name was mentioned by JWN

Hess did everything he could to help the team. He spent as much as he could. He gave up 4 picks to bring in Parcells. Unfortunately, the people picking the players prior to that were clueless. It didn't stop him from trying. I line Mangini but let's face it, Johnson hired him because he was cheap. He tried to move the team to NY because that would have been cheap too. His bottom line motivation is money.

For a first year tandem, Tangini acquitted itself very well. I'd like to see improvement this year - perhaps avoiding a round 3 debacle like we had last year, maybe being better prepared when we see NE for a second time, maybe addressing the gap between scheme and player that we seem to have, but I am very encouraged. I like our direction and I think 2007 might be a year early, but by 2008 I think we will be a force to be reckoned with in the AFC.

Wow. All I can say is Wow. He did everything he could? Hess, and Hess alone, hired Rich Kotite. Hess allowed his front office to fire a head coach after reaching an AFC Championship game.

Woody's cheap for not getting the West Side stadium? Who do you think moved us to New Jersey in the first place? Hess was an oil man first and foremost whose motivation and bottom line was money. I don't see the distinction between him and Woody.

The thread has gone sideways, so to answer the topic question, I'm very confidant in our front office and coaching staff. Strength of schedule is just a number on a piece of paper. They still play the games on Sunday, so we'll see how it plays out.

Yeah that Schlegal pick was a waste and hasnt played at all, and wouldnt be a full-time starter in the 3-4 anyway, especially seeing as we could have had Gabe Watson at that pick and he would have filled our void for a NT.That pick and the Barlow trade are the only real complants i have, other than that they have been very good.

Why was the Schlegel pick a waste? Do you really have a large enough sample size to know if he's going to be a bust? And please don't tell me that the mistake he made on special teams is enough evidence to write him off.

They had a lot of players that fall into the contact, production, offseason honors categories that quality a team for compensatory picks. You can only get 4 or they may have gotten even more. Of course they haven't been announced yet. I think they got 3 last year too.
