all these threads about cutler.. and giving away our draft picks in order to obtain him.. why don't we just see whether our offense is as bad as everyone is assuming it will be. Yeah i know that our offense next year will basically rely on a bunch of unproven players.. our entire recieving corps aside from cotch.. and our QB situation.. but it isnt like players have had opportunities and failed miserably.. yes clemens had an opportunity.. but he was younger.. had a worse o-line( i know this argument has been made over and over but when dealing with young QBs .. its extremely influencial on performance).. and now has a full season under his belt watching Brett Favre.. i say we keep our picks and see how our offense turns out .. who knows.. ratliff could be a stud.. you don't know otherwise.. he has never played in a regular season game.. and if he sucks and clemens continues to disappoint.. we get a great draft pick next year and address the KNOWN problems then.. let players prove they suck before you assume they do...
If Cutler can be had for a reasonable price you cannot afford to wait and see. It is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to obtain a 25 year old proven franchise QB. I'm all for letting Clemens and Ratty battle it out but Cutler changes the story. Even if there were a 50% chance one of the two turns out to be a franchise QB you can't pass on someone who already is and 50% is generous. We've been looking for decades.
I agree with you up to a point. Don't mortgage the future on a single player. However if you can get a QB with a known skill at a fair price you have to do it. If you could steal a QB for a single draft pick, as others have suggested, you ABSOLUTELY have to do it.
dude i completely agree.. but truthfully i've given up on believing that cutler is going to be a Jet.. even with that three way trade that is going around on these boards.. why would cleveland trade away quinn for a 1st and 4th round pick.. they have been workin on him and the season that he is going to start and lead his team... the season all browns fans have been waiting for... they trade him .. i cant seethat happening.. and without a 3rd team.. Jets dont have enough to land cutler themselves..
Don't forget that there is new regime in Cleveland. All reports coming out of Cleveland say that Quinn is not the guaranteed starter and it is an open competition and Mangini is not thrilled with him.
Because by the time "we just see what we have first", it'll be too late to grab Cutler and if the "we just see what we have first" idea doesn't pan out, we'll be screwed.
i'm still not against that at all. if ratliff or kellen both stink it up then draft a qb. if one of them succeeds lets move on and go from there
Yeah I agree with this. However, I'm advocating the "wait and see what happens first". I mean we make all the Jay Cutler threads we want, but that won't help him get here. We will get a lot more information in the next few days and find out if the Jets are even seriously interested in Cutler.
That?s not accurate at all. The cutler hype had me thinking in my mind this kid went to the playoffs before and it turned out he never did. My mistake! He's lost more games then he's won and seems to be a cry baby and wants out of Denver. I have to admit that I?m not too sure what can be done with the Quarter back position this year but giving away draft picks for this guy is not worth it. I?m just afraid we will become the Baltimore Jets and Have our defense score 14 and still loose 21-17. I think we will one day find our true franchise QB, its just not cutler.
It's a team game. He went 8-8 with a team that had the 29th ranked defense in his 2nd year as a starter. The offense you ask? 2nd ranked - only Drew Brees and New Orleans was better.
I'm just as tired of people saying "oh, just give the kids a chance" as others are of hearing about the need to get Cutler. Right now were sitting on a potentially dominating defense with a serious amount of young talent on that side of the ball. Cutler would be an investment in both the present, giving us an actually viable option at QB, and also for the future, considering he'd probably be the face of our franchise for quite some time. This isn't like picking up Favre, there's about a 90% chance that Ratliff and Clemens are not the answer and we'd need to draft a QB early next year anyway. So rather than just screw a year where the defense might be one of the best we've seen in some time in NY, just take advantage of this RARE opportunity.
I'm not all high on Clemens or Ratliff, but from all I have read, Cutler seems like a Class A Dickface. I don't want him at all. It takes more than a strong arm to take a team all the way.
You can't "see what we have" until after the season is partially over. It's not very proactive to do that and don't expect any GM or coach to follow that route if they think they need an upgrade or can make an improvement.
wait and see what we have leaves us sitting here 12 months from now saying lets wait and see what we have. as much as i hate to bring a guy in if we dont need him especially if he costs alot you just cant sit around and pray that the guys who havent shown they can do it will. then again i give our cs and fo enough credit to know that they probably realize right now if what we have will get the job done. and these threads make me think they realize right now, which might already be too late.
According to one article I read today Jet fans will be livid if they go with one of the little 3 they have now and that is the ONLY reason they let leak that they are "monitoring" the Cutler situation...keep thinking PSLs, NOTHING has changed.
I'm sorta curious where all these criticisms about Cutler's attitude are coming from. I've seen some of his post-game interviews and stuff, and while he comes off rather cocky, it's more playful than disruptive, IMO. I mean, he gets along with his teammates and that's pretty much the important thing, right? Is it just because people prefer a dont-step-on-toes boyscout personality, or is there some other damning news on the guy I missed out on?
