Last nights game reinforced for me that Penny isn't capable of throwing the ball with any accuracy for more than 15-20 yards at best. He can't throw it outside the hash marks without risking a pick. This is forcing the dink and dump game that, well, this team just isn't suited for. Ds will T-off on us just like they did last year, knowing that they risk little by sending the house.

Penny is not mobile and scares no one with his feet just like he scares no one with his arm. I say the team may be better off with Clemens starting and having a vet as backup - Penny. At least Clemens is mobile. He has so far looked pretty mature in there and has made som e good decisions. He has the arm to stretch the field a bit too. I say there is nothing to lose and he will gain more experience playing than sitting.

    His ears ;)

Really. His passes are sailing high. I think that means he can't finish the throw because of mobility issues - maybe even pain. I had similar damage to my throwing arm and could never throw a baseball again the way I used to. I know. I know. I'm no superstar pro. But certain injuries are just not 100% recoverable. Penny can't move out of the pocket either, which makes him a sitting duck when there is nothing down field, and he doesn't have the mentality to throw the ball away. It goes against his competitive nature.

Clemens has looked mature. Unlike Penny, he looks pretty comfortable in the shotgun, which may help the OL a bit. I just think we may be better off with him starting and having a vet like Penny on the sidelines. It may also give Penny's arm more time to heal if that's what is needed.

Uhh... I think that if last night proves anything, it's that Clemens isn't ready. Maybe next year. Let's not rush things.

All great points. I am as excited about Clemens as the next guy. However, I think one year with a clipboard in hand will be beneficial and will pay dividends in the long run. Let's be honest. This year we are not Super Bowl bound. Let's ride Pennington as far as he takes us and if that train stalls throw in Ramsey. There is no use in throwing the kid in there. After another good draft we should be much more competitive

    Start Bollinger.

There I said it. The only QB who is mobile and experienced enough to survive behind a young and inexperienced offensive line is Bollinger. Clemens will start next year. Chad and Ramsey would just be sitting ducks back there waiting to lose the job.

As dumb as that sounds, it actually makes some sense.

All of our QB's have been "dinking & dunking" all preseason. I'm hoping it's just Schotty working out the kinks and trying different things to see what works and what doesn't. I'm hoping he doesn't call all short passes during the regular season.

I’m all for seeing Penny’s miserable career come to an end – but Clemens isn’t ready yet.

Clemens is a rookie. He is still learning the ropes. This was expected. At least he has thrown a TD pass. Pennington is a seasoned veteran responsible for 0 points in his preseason appearances. That is pathetic.

I would much rather have Clemens sit for 2-3 years and soak up enough knowledge so that when he plays he is ready to play. To many QB;s are just thrown into the NFL withoiut having any idea what they are doing. Before you know it they are damaged menatlly and physically and of worth to know one.

Clemens was taken as a project QB one that would have to learn for 1-2 years before he would be ready to play. Give the man time to sit and learn. I love what the Jets did with Chad sitting him the bench for three years. While that may have been more motivated by how poorly he did in practice (remember Curtis statements in 2002 that the players watched Chad in practice and to a man they thought no way could this kid play in the NFL beciase of his weak arm) than anything else but it benefited Chad greatly when he got his chance to play.

Let the kid sit and absorb and give the line a couple years to gel. There is no use taking the chance of injuring this kid physcially or mentally by rushing him onto the field. Two years from now I would love to see Clemens be the QB of the future then having to draft anotehr QB of the future because we rushed him out of the gate.

I agree. Its a better option than turning Clemens into Dave Carr or Joey Harrington..

you're exactly right. the only point i would debate white shoe willie on is that you could keep ramsey or even brad smith as a backup, besides clemmens.

the egg has no business being on the roster.
