Houston quarterback Case Keenum is out for the season after injuring his knee in a loss to U.C.L.A. on Saturday night.

The Cougars also lost Keenum’s backup, Cotton Turner, for the season with a broken collarbone.

Coach Kevin Sumlin said in a news release Sunday, “It’s hard to see them hurting right now.”

Keenum, who ranks fifth on the N.C.A.A.’s career passing yards list, tore his anterior cruciate ligament trying to make a tackle after an interception in the second quarter of the 31-13 loss in Los Angeles.

Turner broke his clavicle in the third quarter.

Keenum, a senior, had thrown for 636 yards and 5 touchdowns this season. He sustained a concussion trying to make a tackle after an interception against Texas-El Paso the previous week.

If I understand correctly, he can apply for a medical redshirt because it happened in the first half of the third game. I hope for his sake.

Good news for me, on the other hand.
