Honestly, if I were Woody I would give Jim Harbaugh a blank check to overhaul the franchise

Woody needs to purge this team of any and all connections to previous regimes, coaches, scouts, office personnel, EVERYTHING. Then he needs to bring in Harbaugh and let him start from scratch. No more rookie head coaches, no more stop gap solutions, no more bandaid solutions. Let him build a good culture, get his choice of draft picks and personnel choices.

But of course Woody isn't smart enough to do that. We can only hope.

    We'll always be the Jets.

But Woody is the connection to all of that past shit. I don't trust him to make any good decisions. Anything good that happens to this team was by accident.

I'm not sure that I'd want Harbaugh to be the one overhauling the franchise, to be honest. He's a great coach, yes, but if we were to pry him away from Michigan, whose to say that we wouldn't lose him mid-rebuild to another college program somewhere down the line? If he leaves Michigan early, he risks becoming the Larry Brown of football, moving from one place to the other at a fairly rapid clip. If he could be pried away from Michigan, his alma mater, then there's no reason to believe that he wouldn't bolt from the Jets for a better offer somewhere down the road.

Now, I wouldn't mind getting a coach like Harbaugh who has a proven track record. That's exactly what we need, but I also want one that's going to be in this for the long haul, as we have a very long and painful rebuilding project in front of us. The coach needs to be all in on that.

Build an offensive line and hire somebody like Chip Kelly to coach the offense. Make Bowles oversee the whole team and not just the defense like an NFL head coach should. Commit to Petty and build around him. Allow the GM to do as he sees fit without interference from the owner. Tell Bowles to get his hands involved in every facet of the team especially the minds and attitude of the players. Be around them more and be very clear about expectations on a daily basis. Be in the weight room, the cafeteria, the trainers room instead of watching film. The assistants do that and report what they see. Be a leader in all aspects of the team culture.

Here's what I would do if I was Arthur.

I'd mail blank checks to both Harbaugh and Saban with a pen included.

The first one to send it back with numbers on it gets the job.

Other than that, if the Jaguars don't retain Doug Marrone I'd hire him...he should have got the job to begin with.

I suppose we are all/most assuming T Bowles is gone after a disastrous loss today...That said..

Who is going to WANT this Job??

    Yes, I believe money will entice many but its also about the owner, the structure of this org. power, control, working with Mac (if he is here}

Your building blocks are correct management who make smart decisions

    Indeed, and very good points.

The Jets dysfunction begins and ends with the organizational structure and flow chart.

Whereas most teams have a power structure where the coach reports to the GM who then reports to the owner, the Jets are as fucked up as imaginable.

We have a team president in Neil Glatt, a GM in Mac, and a head coach in over his head Bowles, all of whom report directly to the owner, Arthur Johnson.

Thus, the GM cannot really have any direct impact over Bowles, Bowles has no say really in terms of what the GM does...and the clueless president is really a label and nothing more.

All 3 of these individuals are reporting to a person who knows less about football than perhaps any owner in the league.

If Arthur did it right, he'd look for a football Czar and name him the GM, then let that GM go out and get the coach of his choosing, and the flow chart would resemble most NFL teams.

But not with the Jets, of course.

Bowles needs to be fired - and will be in my opinion...the scary part is that Mac may have Terry Bradway disease. He is an astute talent evaluator in the role of a scout (just like Bradway was)...but as a GM he too may be outside his comfort zone.

The whole thing is a mess.

    +100000

Oh no Oh no Oh no

But you are so right and spot on

I always wondered why Woody hired Casserly and Wolfe in 2015 for "advice ". Why didn't he HIRE one or both of them as Czar/GM??

You know what you're absolutely right. Maybe at this point it's time to rebrand. The Jets are a dead brand anyway. We have Superbowl III and Namath's glory years in the AFL and that's about it. Maybe renaming the team would get rid of Joe Namath's curse as well.

Okay, now we know what you'd do if you owned the Jets.

Is this just a fix-all for any bad franchise, or is there some reason you think these guys are the right ones for the Jets?

What would you do if you owned the Bills, instead?

Chain of command is essential to any structured organization.
I'd say this has a lot to do with the current catastrophe.
    Good post

If Woody is writing a check, it should be to Ron Wolf as President of football operations, and to run the team while Woody stays in England.
then have the GM and HC report to Wolf......and if Mac fails, maybe he can get his son over here to GM the team and/or eventually take over Ron's job.

Ron Wolf is certainly a good choice.

My vote is for Mike Lombardi.

Good eye for talent...but also very football savvy. He's wasted on TV.

Harbaugh isn't leaving before he wins a National Championship with the Wolverines. Half the NFL franchises would give him a blank check to come and turn their franchises around.

It's pretty silly to act like Woody's a dumbass because he can't woo this guy out of a situation where he's treated like a god and gets to boss around college kids while already making a boat load of money.
