I said this way back when Tone had that phone call a couple months ago, he doesn't like the media and the media doesn't like him. He gave them short answers week 17, avoided them til that phone call, got frustrated with them on that phone call and wouldn't talk about the future, and now rips them completely.

Not surprised when an article on Tone is written and the headline or point is negative. Mutual dislike between Holmes and the media I believe

It just seems people don't know or understand Holmes - hopefully his article will shine some light on that

Oh I think people understand him pretty well. He's a great football player and a multimillionaire who has a long track record of acting like a jerk and saying stupid things.

"...this season is going to rely on how well Santonio Holmes and Mark Sanchez work together on the field this year.”

Ricky says it's going to come down to Ricky.

He said nothing controversial and everything he said was perfectly fine if you dont listen/watch the interview with the mindset that Tone is a jerk and a dick.

Obviously you did not do that...

The Giant fan in me wants to point out that pretty much exactly one year ago there were newspaper articles talking about how the Jets had taken over the city while the Giants were becoming "irrelevant."

However, the football fan in me just thinks this is dumb on Holmes' part. Most teams benefit from that "us against the world mentality," I can't say as I've seen a player ask for the media to be a part of their team in the past. This is the kind of thing that writers will throw in his face later in the season if things start to go tits up.

EDIT: Maybe those articles will come sooner than later...

That's because they were. Jets were going deep in the playoffs, Giants weren't. Face it, the team that owns the city is the team that plays better. That's why the whole debate of which team "owns" the city is stupid.

Those were good comments by Holmes. I'll give him that.

It amazes me how insecure the fans of the more established team with the recent SB wins are. What is the problem with Giants fans that they are obsessed with the Jets and the relative position between the two teams. Enjoy your SB win and your regular season win over the Jets and shut up.

New York is too fickle to be "owned" by any team now. The Giants are more established due to their history, but I honestly think the 86 & 90 Super Bowl have more to do with that than 2007 & 2011. Again, look back one year; the Jets were the toast of the town and the Giants were unimportant. Now the Giants are reigning champions and the Jets are a circus (in the papers' eyes).

The city, she is a cruel mistress.

Yeah, I've been here for a while so I'm going to go ahead and post whatever I feel like, ummkay buddy?

I mentioned it to prove a point. That point is obviously beyond your grasp and, for that, I am truly sorry.

EDIT: In the interest of not starting a pissing contest, I want to point re-emphasize that what the media says and which team they back doesn't matter one bit. They picked against the Giants in 2007 & 2011. They picked against the Jets in 1969. It means nothing. I don't know why it matters to Holmes one bit. It could be problematic in the future because he obviously pays attention to the media and this, combined with his adversarial relationship with the press, could lead to bad things. THAT is my point.

Just because your a jerk doesn't mean you can't stand up and say what's right. Some people didn't understand him well, and the reason why people "understand" him is because of last season's fiasco in Miami. Last game of the season, do or die. Schottenheimer's gameplan isn't working out and Sanchez isn't playing well, I maybe playing Devil's Advocate but, what can you do in that situation? Just shutup and play? Not if your losing.

He's helping our young WRs and hasn't gotten into any off-the field trouble. He's a jerk, but he can be a valuable one. We know he hates the media, I'm sure he said this statement to get it off his chest - unfortunately this opens up more negativity by the media. Didn't Pennington call out the media also? I'm sure you didn't say much back then?

So...essentially you agree with what Holmes said. Maybe not his words in their entirety but with the reasons behind them.

How am I agreeing with Holmes? I think what the media does shouldn't matter. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that what the media does is only as beneficial/detrimental to any given team as that team allows it to be.

I don't think the media is important, but I don't think it's a good idea to admonish them to be team players.

Not to be fickle in my own right, but aside from the Cleveland and Detroit games of two years ago, I feel like Holmes has done this team so much more harm than good. In my mind at least. You look at all the guys that have "changed the game" these past couple years and I remember Braylon bulldozing at the 5-yard line against the Pats in the playoffs, Cotchery tearing his groin and keeping said Browns game alive on a late 4th down, Shonn's run in the Charger playoff game to ice it.

Pretty clear I'm not a Holmes fan. The guy straight pisses me off. It's not just he's a diva receiver, it's like he's got the diva personality while opening up the concert for the rock star.

Punching his baby momma in the face. Gettin caught with weed then telling the pissed off fans to go die. Several steelers said in a interview two yrs ago about mike Wallace how it was nice to have a talented wr that didn't have an attitude. The steelers were going to flat out cut him after the 08 season because they couldn't stand him, he won sb MVP they didn't want to deal with the aftermath. Following yr thy trade him for a 5 th. just a few examples
