Would be interesting if Douglas could work some magic in trading Davis to GB to mitigate draft capital needed for Rodgers. https://wisportsheroics.com/report-packers-inquired-about-trade/ (Report) The Green Bay Packers Have Inquired About Significant Trade By McQuade ArnoldJanuary 25, 2023Updated:January 25, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read FacebookTwitterPinterest Aaron Rodgers - Photo Via: John Fisher/Getty Images SHARE The Packers’ 2023 off-season figures to be yet another suspenseful one. Last off-season we saw Aaron Rodgers sign his massive three-year extension, Davante Adams was traded away to Las Vegas, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling chose to sign with the Chiefs instead of the Packers. This time around we await the decision of Aaron Rodgers as well as possible trades/signings to bolster their roster for another playoff run in 2023. The Packers have reportedly inquired about trading for a player who once again seems to be on the trading block. The Green Bay Packers Inquired About Trading For Jets’ WR Corey Davis Corey Davis, New York Jets, Getty Images As Jason Hirschhorn reported last year, the Packers tried to trade for Davis around the draft last spring. If the Jets are already going to move on, sending him to GB in a Rodgers trade makes perfect sense,” Peter Bukowski reported. According to Paul Esden Jr: People in and around the Jets are operating under the assumption that Corey Davis will be a cap casualty’ this offseason (2023), per Zack Blatt NYJ would save $10.5 million w/ $666,667 in dead cap. Corey Davis has spent six seasons in the NFL. The first four were with the Tennessee Titans and the last two were with the New York Jets. In his six seasons he has accumulated 273 receptions, 3,879 receiving yards, and 17 touchdowns. The averages out to just over 45 receptions, 647 receiving yards, and nearly three touchdowns per season. That type of production is certainly something the Packers could utilize. With Allen Lazard’s seemingly imminent departure, bringing in a veteran like Corey Davis would go a long way for the receiving corps. Clearly Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs are the future of the position, however, a veteran presence like Davis would provide a mentor for the two young stars.
I really don't think Corey Davis is like this guaranteed cap casualty that everyone seems to think he is. Like obviously they'll cut him or trade him if its the difference between getting Aaron Rodgers and not, but why are we all so eager to get rid of him. He currently has the 30th highest cap hit, and that'll probably be closer to 40th after FA. Any replacement they sign will probably have a higher cap hit. Garrett Wilson - Stud. Legitimate number one soon to be star receiver. With a healthy Rodgers, I think he'll hover around a top 5 receiver. Elijah Moore - Had a disappointing season, and requested a trade. With Aaron Rodgers as QB he'll probably stick around, but he's definitely a question mark. Denzel Mims - Has done nothing in years, and also has requested a trade. Might be better with Rodgers, but he's also a huge question mark. Braxton Berrios - Had a disappointing season IMO, and is a potential cap casualty. Saves five million against the cap. Jeff Smith - Jeff Smith. Nothing against the guy, but generally if I see Jeff Smith getting meaningful snaps it means something has gone wrong. If the Jets lose Davis, I think WR goes becomes a legitimate round one possibility in the draft.
Very interesting. Davis and a 3rd? Davis will be cut regardless to pay for whatever QB we bring on. I’d even throw in an extra Davis if they want. Ashtyn is free.
(BOGO) Sale! Buy One Get One Free on Davis's Offer is valid from now until training camp but move fast cause they would last long! (hopefully anyway )
If we are going to get rid of Corey Davis I would much rather it be in a significant trade than just cutting him. Without him we have no receivers over 6 feet unless you count Denzel Mims who barely registers as an NFL player. We’d either have to draft a bigger bodied receiver or find one in the bargain bin during free agency.
Why are we eager to get rid him? Because he's missed 36% of his games since he's been here. He is useless if he isn't playing. Go get a big body WR in the draft on day 2 or 3 who knows how to use his hands to catch the ball.
I get he isn't perfect. I wouldn't call myself a huge fan or anything. Having said that, getting rid of Corey Davis and replacing him with a day 3 rookie seems very risky, especially if they're getting Aaron Rodgers and making a SB push.
If he reduces the cost for Rodgers, I'm all for shipping him to GB in a package. I think we could draft another WR that could fill his shoes in that scenario.
Davis hasn’t provided any return for that FA contract. Didn’t help QB development, couldn’t stay healthy, and wasn’t effective when he was. If we had plenty of cap I’d be up to give him another year with new OC. However we are now forced to dump a massive chunk of cap space on a QB, need to give Q a new deal, and have to figure out something on the Oline that also has UFA’s. We paying the price for past mistakes. Davis, Berrios and Whitehead are all easy cuts imo in terms of cap savings vs dead money. Lawson may be gone too unless he restructures. That one sucks more as he contributes. But we will need the space.
I would consider packaging Zach Wilson in the deal if GB interested in developing him as a backup. Moving Wilson and Davis helps clear cap for Rodgers. And I’d rather resign White as the backup to develop.
