Here is my opinion of the TE's in the upcoming draft:

    My Top 5 Tight Ends

    1. Vernon Davis ? Is a physical freak but not your true tight end. Lacks blocking skills but is too talented in other spots to not be listed as the best tight end. Can be split out like Tony Gonzalez and has the speed and size to make match ups almost impossible.

    2. Leonard Pope ? More of the true tight end but his blocking skills are not great either. If you can develop him as a blocker he would be a better all around player than Davis

    3. Anthony Fasano ? A good blocker with decent hands. Reminds me of Anthony Becht but he can actually catch. His only glaring weakness to me is that he fumbles too much when trying to do to much and when he is run down from behind.

    4. Joe Klopfenstein ? Did a great job catching the ball and getting down field. He has the frame you like to see on a NFL tight end. All he needs to do is add some more muscle.

    5. Mercedes Lewis ? I put him here because I had to. I don?t feel great about him but his potential keeps him in my top 5. Would not pick early on at less you can afford the risk

    Possible Busts

Dominque Byrd - Played a lot of soft teams in the PAC 10 and played with a lot of great players around him.

    Possible Sleepers

David Thomas ? Great hands and made a lot of good catches in the National Champ game. Is almost like a possession receiver but also has the ability to get down and dirty.
Jeff King ? Has the all around tools to be a good tight end it?s just a matter of sharpening them. Great pick to whoever gets him.

Byrd has a big chance of being a bust. There were games when he was invisible in that offense.

You can say that for any player, including Davis. In fact Davis really only had 4 100 yard games last year. But hes still the consensus #1 TE
