    Brodney Pool downplays past concussions

Jets safety has history of head injuries

New York Jets safety Brodney Pool downplayed the amount of concussions he has suffered during his previous stint with the Cleveland Browns.

Pool reportedly has had four concussions, including one last season where he was placed on injured reserve.

Pool is adamant that the number is much lower.

"I've only had one concussion," Pool told the New York Post. "I have a family history of migraines and that's what has been happening to me, not concussions."

Pool claims that the lone concussion he had was during his first preseason game as a rookie.

"I ran down on kickoff and hit the wedge and knocked myself out," he said. "The other times I was very aware; I knew what was happening."

Pool says that last year's injury was a migraine, not a concussion.

And he says that better hydration, more sleep and better eating habits can help reduce migraines.

Pool can also work on his tackling strategy.

"There are certain techniques we'll use with him in terms of trying to keep his head out there, tackling more with his shoulders and chest instead of leading with his head," Jets secondary coach Dennis Thurman said.

Added Pool:"That's one of the first things (Thurman) told me and it's one of my goals in the offseason, to learn to tackle not leading with my head and use more of my shoulders. I'm working on that this offseason."

Jesus. You would have thought somebody might have taught him this before so that he might, you know, not kill himself.

I've had a bunch of coaches teach how to tackle in different ways. Some say to put your facemask right in the runner's chest. Most teach facemask on the ball, shoulder on the chest.

For the DB sized guys (for me, I was always around 6'1 and pretty lean) it's a tradeoff between the concussion and the separated shoulder. I've tried both ways...I don't know if I have ever had a concussion but I can certainly think of one or two times where it would have been questionable if I'd been checked out.....I definitely had separated shoulders....

LBs and even the corners who are 5'9, 5'10 and stocky don't have the same issues. Guys like Cromartie who are thin and tall are more injury prone when tackling for sure. They're more exposed and there's less meat on the part of the body making contact....it sucks.

What Brodney Pool needs to do is start studying and practicing Aikido. He will learn all the angles of the body and be able to protect himself more on tackles.

Jesus. What are they teaching in college these days?

TACKLE WHAT YOU CAN SEE, IDIOTS.

This also means you should NEVER lead your tackle with your head.

Real men tackle with their face. Shoulder tacklers are faggots.
