Before he got hurt last year for the Vikings, he had absolutly horrible stats, throwing 12 INT compared to 6 TDS and last night he threw 2 INT compared to 0 TDS, He just doesnt seem like he has it back there anymore, This Wes Welker guy looks like he is pretty sick but does anybody agree Culpepper may have lost it?:finssuck:
its one game, and their OL is avg at best i hope hes lost it, but i wouldnt jump to any conclusions, considering he went against one of the best D's in the game.
looked terrible BEFORE injury........even worse now......BLITZ him make him panic and pick him off.....he wont run hes afraid to get hit
I would say he's never had it. A lot of marginal players have had one or two monster years in their career, it is not unusual for that to happen... especially for a QB who has Randy Moss to throw to...
1 game...In a hostile environment, against a Top 5 defense, when they're receiving their Superbowl rings... 1 game against that team on the road doesn't classify as he's lost it or anything...Way to early.
Don't forget that early in Culpepper's career one his outstanding attributes was his mobility... in that regard he is now a shell of his former self.
I didn't see a problem with his mobility last night, he just made alot of bad passes. Of course most QB's of bad teams end up looking pretty bad against good defenses. Much like he did last year for Minnesota he'll probably have a few great games against shitty teams and struggle against good ones.
Reality the NFL QB situation is a mess. The drop off after Brady and Palmer is like going off a cliff, on the way down to the rocks their is a guy named Manning and Rothleisberger standing on an overhang looking up. The rest of the league is made up of JAGS, Has been and never will bees. Culpepper like Vinny is a top 5 to 10 talent who when managed properly can get good results. Keep in mind on the road the same Pittsburgh D made Manning, Plummer and Hasselbeck look like total JAGS. In 04 with a healthy Martin and a very good OL we couldn't score against them on O.
Excellent points. I think it has pretty much always been like this in the NFL, however the way the game is played now with alot more short, controlled passing has led to an inflation of QB rating and the impression that QB's around the league in general today are somehow alot better then they were in the past. Did you know Pennington's 2002 season was the 16th highest in terms of QB rating in NFL history? And this is the stat(for the most part) that QB's are judged on. No wonder there is such a case of overratedness among the leagues QB's.
I agree completely, WB, other than to say that you've annointed Palmer way too quickly. I know you think he's great, and I don't really disagree, but to put Manning below him right now is not reasonable. Manning has had several regular seasons at least as good as Palmer's last year, and Palmer's postseason record (Manning's great curse) consists of exactly 1 pass. How about if we let Palmer win a postseason game before we say that he is above Manning, in Brady territory?
Manning has also been surrounded by HOF'ers on offense for his entire career, and it's not so much that he's not good in the postseason, but he's just terrible and has cost his team several games. I give Palmer the benefit of the doubt until he proves that he can't do it in the postseason. I do agree with you though that Brady has to be alone at the top at this point.
The only year Manning had an arguably better year than Palmer was in 04 after his 7th year. Palmer in his 1 pass in post season has allready had a better post season than Manning has in 8 years of post season play. Take a look at Palmers YPA and completion % for the playoffs might be the best ever.
I have argued countless times with my friends that Culpepper is over rated. I believe this to be the year that the rest agree with me.
