Repeal and Replace! None of these guys will be on the team in 2018 and therefore should all be cut and replaced by rookies, young players on the roster, or young free agents.
I don't think they can cut both B. Marshall and Decker. While Decker has some questions as to when he'll be healthy, and if he'll be as effective as before, imo he's better than B. Marshall, is a better teammate, can play and help the team longer, and is cheaper than Marshall. Decker should therefore stay imo, and B. Marshall should go. The Jets can save $7.5 million by trading or cutting Marshall. It would cost them money to cut Forte this year, so I disagree on cutting him this year. He can still help the team, and can help mentor a rookie RB. IMO he should go following the upcoming season.
If Decker is healthy and not limited due to injuries they have to keep him, Marshall must go, way too many mood swings dropped balls and outside interests. Harris should stay only if he take a big restructure and pay cut due to the fact he can't play passing downs, he can't cover anybody. Forte I believe still has a some left in the tank but he has to have a lead blocker, get a fullback somewhere the three tight ends last year did not get the job done. Green Bay was able to turn a receiver into a decent running back with a good lead blocker. Mevis should have been benched week 7 or 8 last year, how Bowles could put up with that lack of effort all year is not a good sign. Skrine, I just don't have a clue if he is worth keeping.
Keep Harris, $6.5M for the leader of the D, can still run stop Skrine is a good slot corner, dont play him out of position Forte would cost money to cut as previously said, let him have wear and tear this year and get rid of him next Decker can lead our WRs, cut Marshall and save $7.5M. Without both, it could be brutal to watch next year Cut Gilchrist save $4.6M Trade Sheldon save $8M Revis is gone Won't be liked by Jets fans....but sign Geno for 1 more year. If he does well, we have a QB, if he bombs out, we have a top 5 pick for a QB in 2018. Would be a cheap prove it deal too.
Cutting forte would result in wasted cap, no point since there is no cap savings, Harris should be let go, Skrine was restructured last season if memory serves correctly, he's nothing more than a slot CB, anything other than that and your'e asking for trouble. Gilchrist I agree needs to be cut, Revis is gone, Harris would have been a dynamite LB in the 1980's but he is not a modern day line backer, I would offer him a spot of the coaching staff but if not I would let him go. I don't know which WR will go but I think one of either Marshall or Decker will be cut or traded.
Agree with most of this. I'd really do due diligence on Decker's injuries. It seems to me like he broke down in a big way last year and he's 30 this year and breakdowns don't get better after 30 they tend to accelerate instead. Geno is probably the cheapest option available to the Jets but I'm a bit concerned about his 4 to 6 win potential. Having him go 5-11 next year would be kind of devastating to the Jets build overall because that would take them out of reach of the top QB/LT in the draft and maybe out of reach of the QB's altogether. I'm not big on tanking but we're in a hole right now and the more we try to dig our way out the deeper it gets instead.
I'm okay with the rest of the post, but we've already seen the best Geno is ever going to be. And it's nowhere near good enough. Playing him would be a gift to the rest of the AFC East.
Not crazy about cutting the WRs. If we are going to have a young qb play we should give him the best options possible
Geno has shown flashes, but we all know hes inconsistent, and NFL teams need consistency. The way I see it.... Year 1: He had no business playing as a rookie, and still went 8-8. Marty's offense was awful, and our top receiver was Jeremy Kerley, and with him were Stephen Hill, Santonio Holmes, David Nelson and Kellen Winslow Jr., all since out of the league. Year 2: We signed Eric Decker who had nagging injuries all year, still finished with 900+ yards although 200 came in week 17. He had his ups and downs, mostly downs, and was awful in the October Buffalo game, throwing 3 picks in the 1st quarter. I also don't think Rex and Marty did him any favors. His final game he had a 158.3 passer rating, with 80% completion rate and 358 yards, mostly courtesy of Cortland Finnegan. I don't care how bad Miami's defense may have been, any QB that can do that has potential as a starter. Year 3: We heard he was making strides in the off-season, but talk is cheap, and you need to prove it on the field. I was hopeful to see him with Marshall and Decker, and in Chan's offense that fits Geno's strengths. He was immature and got knocked out for the year. His only game he came into, he was down by a lot, and unprepared with the 1st team, and still performed decently. Year 4: He started one game, went 8-14, moved the ball, scored a TD and threw a pick. I was at the game, and I think it was a tipped ball and there were at least 3 dropped passes. 2 years on the bench after having 2 years of experience, I'm thinking we may see another Geno the next time he hits the field. I'm not sure I'm ready to write him off as a cheap option for year 5.
Why is everyone hot on Decker? Dude can't stay on the field and the last time he got injured he had to go in for two different surgeries. Time to start fresh....Let Eric go but keep his wife...
This is an overlooked point. First excuse made for any young Jets QB is always the weapons. I'd like to see what Hack and Petty can do with Deck/Marshall/Enunwa/Powell/Forte.
I see no reason to cut Decker unless he can't return. Harris I'm on the fence about, I don't think we have a suitable replacement yet as signal caller for the D, so maybe keep him one more year. The rest of them I'm okay with cutting.
That's all true bout him ..but as far as I recall we paid a pretty penny for him and he deserves one last workout to see whats left in the tank More reliable vet than Marshall imo If he still cant play all 3 including the Ms. will end up on TV
There's some merit to this argument. What would you do though when the guy has proven he can play and most of those guys drop out next year? That's why drafting a bunch of guys to play together makes sense. It's why feeding your young QB high picks at other positions that he will need to succeed makes sense. I'd rather the Jets traded down this year and found an OT, WR and TE for the QB they need to draft next year. Let those guys get some on the job training with whoever is playing QB this year and hope they're good enough to really help the young QB next year.
