A lot of the potential FAs are coming out of the woodwork now asking for their extensions....and they're certainly entitled (Mangold, Harris, Revis).....I hope Tanny is prepared to break the bank.

These are the core players, and Harris is playing for peanuts relative to his teamates.

Why not do it now when there is no cap that way these deals could be grandfathered in if there is a new CBA deal done.

Take a number, dude. We got 4 big contracts to dole out in the next two years. Due to the escalation restrictions vis-a-vis the end of the CBA, it appears to be in the player's best interests to wait until next year when those restrictions will presumably no longer exist. The one caveat being Leon's situation. The player must weigh the extra millions from waiting vs the potential for injury. Lastly, and I don't mind saying it, Harris is the lowest priority of the big 4 and will most likely be dealt with accordingly. Unfortunately, we will have too much invested the ilb position..Scott just gets paid way too much.

Hopefully they'll work quickly like everything else this preseason and get Mangold, Harris, and Revis signed by 5 PM today.

QFT. There is also the 30% rule which mean you can't raise a player's salary more than 30% of previous years. They are better off waiting until the end of the season. There was an article posted on JI.com that outlined the situation really well.

Scott will most likely restructure his contract after this season. I'm surprised Sanchez hasn't pulled a Tom Brady yet and worked a contract change to free up some money for guys like Mangold. He got $27mil guaranteed. Even after taxes, that's $13.5.

God damn I wouldn't know how to spend that much money and that was just the guaranteed money - plus he's getting a salary. I won't make half of the post tax money in my entire working career....

I don't think we really need to worry about the players on defense getting new contracts. Rex will threaten to give everybody the middle finger from Florham Park if Woody doesn't open his pay check for his players.

Gotta worry more about our OLine, and them being happy with the contracts.

At least the players understand how it's difficult with the 30% rule and potential lockout. They all know though that if they perform, Tannenbaum will make it work and bring them all back. These guys like Harris, Revis, Mangold, etc.. they're core players. They aren't Pete Kendall, or Faneca, or a 3rd down back like Leon, or Chris Baker who were all very replaceable. I fully expect these guys and D'Brick to all be wearing the green and white for a long time.

Harris isn't making any money this year. It would be near impossible to extend him based on the 30% rule. They could give him a big bonus but his base salaries would be nothing. I believe the Jets will resign Mangold this off season. Next off season depending on the new cba (if they have one) Harris gets franchised. They will probably restructure Brick next off season since his 6th year number is so high. Revis is under contract for 3 more seasons, so it's time for him to shut up and get in line. I appreciate that he is a great player, but he fought the Jets and held out until he got the contract he wanted when he was a rookie.

The big question marks are Cromartie, Holmes and Braylon. The Jets have given up 2 5th round picks and 2 third round picks depending on Cromartie.

It's possible that all three could leave next year. It's great for one year since all 3 are playing for that lucrative 2nd contract they will give everything they have.
