I will say that more stores are giving Vet discounts now. Buffalo WW has a Military Monday 25% off special on everything. Ask me how I know...
Feel good story.... While waiting for my connection in Charlotte, I met a man and his wife waiting for the same flight. He told me he was a Navy Seal from the Vietnam War who had just spent the last 3 years in a VA hospital because of his wounds. His boarding group was 7 and mine was 4 and I didn't think that was right. When our time came to board, I told the lady at the gate that there was a Navy Seal from the Vietnam War who was in the last group and could she do something about that. She had me point him and his wife out. The lady immediately asked them to board and told the others to just wait until they did. The man then invited me to come fish his private pond anytime I'm back in Missouri. I just might take him up on that.. Some things still matter and not everyone lives in a bubble. Kudos to that American Airlines gate agent for stepping up and acknowledging this man's sacrifice for OUR country.
Thanks for this, and especially for the thread title. The Veterans Association in my old neighborhood in the Bronx is going to honor my uncle tomorrow. This year marks the 75th anniversary of his passing. He was coxswain of an LCM in the Pacific, when an ammo ship blew up in the harbor. The explosion damaged or destroyed everything within a one mile radius. My uncle's remains were never recovered. One of my cousins and I have been going through my uncle's letters home, the Navy telegrams to my grandparents, and searching the Internet, to get a better understanding of the uncle we never knew. He was underage when he enlisted, and 19 when he died. Never had a chance to live his life.
Maybe one of the Mods could put this in the main Jets thread for today you can move it back here to the BS thread tomorrow # CMAN ,# Brook, # Petro, # one of the other Mods ,,,,,just a thought
United States of America. Gave me a flag. Gave me a passport I can be proud of. Accepted me as I am. Gave my family a life. I will forever be grateful to people who made this country what it is today.
Thank you to those who have served, and especially to those families whose soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice. Thanks Cman for reminding us that as passionate as we get over the Jets, we need to keep it in perspective to the things that really matter.
