Accidentally hit reruns yesterday, prob part of a promo for new season. Anyone seen it? I'm kind of SF addict, never really believed in actual existence of UFOs, outside of SF lit, but they are making a pretty compelling case. On the other hand, it's History Channel, they've always been high on semi-empty sensationalism. What do you think?
The new season starts I believe Apr. 10th. I'd guess they will rerun all episodes prior to it. So just check History channel programming.
Well, I confess that I like those kinds of shows as well. I watch "Mountain Monsters" even though those idiots couldn't catch a cold in Alaska soaking wet let alone a true cryptid. I watch Hangar 1 from time to time and I will catch the first few episodes this upcoming season too. I have DirecTV and rarely venture south of channel 202 or north of channel 305 (ION). Between Wicked Tuna, Swamp People, Mountain Monsters, River Monsters and Hangar 1, I'll barely have time to keep up with Criminal Minds...
Episode 6 speculates about reasons for SDI of 80s. Got me thinking.... There were reports a couple of months ago about planned one-way mission to Mars to basically set up a colony there. At the same time NASA findings were declining over the past decade+. When I read the article about "mission to Mars" I was wondering how the hell we are supposed to accomplish it when space exploration is declining. Well... if episode 6 has any merit, it'd explain the how.
Hopefully, we can put our religious and political difference aside and come together for a joint effort to Mars and beyond. I think no one country could afford the cost of a manned Mars mission not to mention the technology required doesn't reside in any one nation.
If you want to take what History Channel is implying as true, then technology already exists, and deployed. If not, developing it and building a seed ship would take unknown amount of time. How then can anyone set deployment time to 2030s if it's unknown how long it'll be before technology is available? http://www.techtimes.com/articles/5...-the-2030s-will-mars-one-already-be-there.htm
I think that's not a hard date. There's a few obstacles in the way that have to be overcome. First is radiation shielding. Then Propulsion and fuel loads. Then life support for a year long space mission (which might be the easiest part of this jigsaw puzzle). We haven't even taken into account the human factor. Assuming we as a species don't destroy ourselves or our planet between now and 2030, we still have to learn how to work together to accomplish this and right now, I just don't see it happening in my lifetime.
All very compelling reasons.... and yet the missing is planned and seriously discussed. This is with a mount of scientific question marks and lower NASA fundings. The picture is: we didn't provide sufficient funds for space exploration for ~ dozen years. Most space launches are either sattelite or repair missions. So how are they planning to have robots on Mars by mid-20s and ready to be populated colony by 30s?
