If the World Champion Phillies are worried about the new-look Mets bullpen, they certainly aren't showing it. Philadelphia ace Cole Hamels called the Mets "choke artists" in an interview today on WFAN with Evan Roberts and Joe Benigno. "Last year and this year I think we did believe that," Hamels said when asked if the Mets are choke artists. "Three years ago we didn't because they smoked everybody, and I think we all thought they were going to win it all. Unfortunately that didn't happen. But, yeah, that's kind of what we believed and I think we're always going to believe that until they prove us wrong." Roberts gave Hamels a chance to back away from his comments, but the southpaw didn't.
Good for him, he's won a World Series the last 2 division titles he has earned the right to talk shit. He's a dam good pitcher and I'm hoping the Mets use this as the rallying cry for 2009 they won't but if makes this rivalry a little bit more of a riavlry. Honestly as far as I'm concerned 2006 was a choke year as well. They were the best team and let a 4 game over .500 Cardinal team steal the NLCS from them. All that being said..... fuck him and the Phils
This is great, Mets & Phils finally have a real rivalry after all these years, it is about time. He is right though and and he should be thankful, otherwise the city of Philadelphia would still be waiting for their first championship in almost 30 years.
Well now we have to resign Oliver Perez, he's probably got the best chance of landing one in Hamels' earhole.
perez stats vs phillies last year 4 starts 1 win 0 loss 26.0 ip 17 hits 1 r 1 er 1 hr 11 bb 27 k's 0.35 era 1.08 whip .181 ba how could we not want this guy back!?????????????
