We all know it's been an awful season. You can go to any of the other threads here to read or discuss that kind of stuff. Let's have a little chat about who has improved and done well this season that the team can build from. Let me preface all this by saying that I hope Tannenbaum gets canned. There's too many holes on this team, especially on offense, for the Jets to compete for the big prize, and all of the evidence points to him as the root of the problem in my opinion. The defense has a number of people playing well. Wilkerson has become the heart and soul of the defensive line, with Coples playing well right along with him. Karl Dunbar has been a great addition to the coaching staff. The defensive line is by far the most improved unit on the team, which should be expected with the investments that were made. Antonio Cromartie stepped up big time when Revis went down. If the team can afford to keep Revis next year and into the future, there is no doubt in my mind that this will be the best cornerback duo in the league. However, if they decide to trade Revis, I won't be worried with Cromartie and Kyle Wilson, and chances are the team will get some considerable value at other positions. Whatever your stance is on Revis, Cromartie has given this team some options going into the future. LaRon Landry has been a formidable presence, but I doubt we can afford to sign him back. Here's hoping they can make a deal. Unfortunately, I get the feeling it will be much like the Braylon situation after 2010. Garrett McIntyre has played pretty well in his limited snaps. I honestly don't have much of a feel for linebacker play, but it seemed like he had as many big plays as any of the other linebackers. Good to see some young depth play well in an aging position group. I haven't seen/heard much about Demario Davis, I'd be interested in hearing if somebody could give a report about him. The bottom line is that if the Jets can tighten up the LB position, this can be a very scary defense going forward. The offense had fewer bright spots, but there are guys to bring up. The first person that comes to mind is, believe it or not, Jeff Cumberland. This is kind of like Cromartie where he has played well in the absence of Keller. He's not playing to the highest level possible, but he has shown steady improvement over the course of the season on an extremely dysfunctional offense. Kerley has also done well. If this organization get get some strong receivers on the outside, Kerley will thrive even more in the slot. Kerley stepped up where everybody else was hurt or almost anonymous. Shonn Greene and Bilal Powell have actually done a decent job down the stretch in these last few games. The committee approach could be effective in the short and medium term future, but I think this team would do well to look for a bell cow back. If there's nobody out there worth taking, though, I don't feel bad about sticking with Greene/Powell. Those are the guys I can think of. While the talent around here obviously isn't adequate in terms of competing to make the playoffs, it's not like the cupboard is completely empty. So let's lessen the pain by talking about the good things a little bit.
