Intersting note on PFT on how Williams on let Garrett use two moves. I'd like to hear Williams respond to it. Surprised that Williams will limit someone knowing who he is. If he did there was a reason for it that I'd like to hear. Hopefully he doesn't limit us. We need as many moves to get to the qb because we haven't in awhile. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...ett-gregg-williams-only-let-me-use-two-moves/
I have a hard time believing Gregg Williams of all people would limit what one of his most talented players could do. That goes against everything you've ever heard about him.
If true, I'd like to hear the reason(s) as well. I am very skeptical, however, about it's veracity. If he thinks only two moves are necessary for an edge rusher, then the Jets should have drafted Allen.
I think it really depends on you read into it, and of course William’s take... This could very well mean Williams talking to him like he’s Randy Johnson and telling him you keep going with the heater. I dont think there is anything to this, if anything it speaks to Wllliams’ expertise if this guy had 13.5 sacks. Should i believe he’d have 27 if he doubled his move-set?
Maybe he had a lineman that was REALLY good with a bull rush but player prefered a different move with finiess that almost always failed. Greg be like "HEY FRANCIS....KNOCK OF THE FUCKING BALLAY!
Garrett's comments "I hopefully have more freedom to be the player I want to be,""(Former defensive coordinator and interim head coach) Gregg (Williams) was more like: 'You win with these two moves. I don't want to see anything else out of you.' It's kind of hard with two moves. I feel like you can't always be so predictable. You can be as strong or fast as you want, but speed chop and power move aren't always going to work. You have to mix up what you're doing. Sometimes you have to stutter step, sometimes you have to spin inside, you have to run some games. You have to have some freedom to throw different looks at them, and we didn't always have that." Hopefully Williams doesn't ban Polite's spin move.
Sounds like Garrett got called out for taking plays off... Williams point is you either beat the man in front of you with speed or you beat him with power. Either way, you need to go 100% all the time to get sacks, can’t half ass it as a pro.... Or Williams is just a dick...
2nd year player, would rather have a pass-rusher that is a master of 2 things, then a master of none. Increase the repertoire as you progress
