I think it might be slightly too positive on the coaching since there were some mistkaes last year and this year, and ignores the point the second time we face the Pats and get blasted. I do agree with the overall point though, Rex and the CS is a pretty good unit. And I think it hits on them major point, it's hard to get younger and better in one year when you have a lot of positions that need fixing. I think the pieces are there to create a great foundation in management and the Jets shouldn't rush to make another change. I do think the Tannebaum parting was necessary to get a fresh eye on the roster, cap situation, and the draft pick situation.
Concur but at some point we have to start drafting playmakers. I love Richardson and have high hopes for Milliner, but next year we have to start loading up on offensive talent. A big young stud TE, a splay,asking WR, a tries feature back...would be a start. Something like what Cinncy did, Eiffert in round 1, Bernard in round 2. _
I hope like hell Austin Seferian-Jenkins is available when we pick next year. A TE like that would really improve this offense.
Definitely I agree. I think Idzik was taking a long term approach and just went BPA at positions we needed. Agreed though, we need to get playmakers and I think that's what next year is for. I do think this was just step 1 in the rebuilding process and I think the good point he hit on is that the process isn't just one step/
Hold it right there. In a game of field position where 10 yards could mean the game you decide at multiple times to have NO PR. One good PR could have won us the game... The time management and wasting of time outs was horrible! The play calling was very questionable.... What was pretty good about that performance?
True but if we are truly rebuilding and this year did not matter for both Rex and for Idzik think about it this way. Not saying we end up with the players but hear me out. The talent on offense in this draft was not the best, I think people would agree with me on that. These are two hypothetical draft pools. Year 1 has stud defensive players (luxury) and average offensive players (need). Year 2 catches up and has better offensive talent than year 1. If the team wants to truly contend in years 2 and 3 wouldn't it be better to have 2 drafts of BPA offense and defense, than to force offense in year 1. Not saying it ends up like this but teams who draft BPA like the Packers, Giants, 49ers, Seahawks are better off than teams who force drafting for need. In year 3 if we ended up with Richardson, Milliner and Sammy Watkins or Marquise Lee is anybody here really complaining?
Mickey Schuler was such a long time ago, it's hard to imagine as much as we've been beaten up by big tall TEs the past few years that we haven't gotten one ourselves (and for the record I like Winslow and I liked Keller, I just don't see Reuland and Cumberland as the answer). _
The first time you could see that it was Kyle Wilsons fault. The second time you could see that they were going for the block. But, hoping for Kyle Wilson to have a good punt return is like waiting up every year to see Santa Claus. We can keep hoping but in the end its never going to happen.
Oh I agree with you, wasn't bitching about our draft this year but just once I'd like to see us go out and grab an Austin (type) or a Bernard or an Eifert/Ertz. I liked our draft and I agree when rebuilding you have to go BPA. _
You should reread what I wrote because I never called Thursday night's performance pretty good in the post you partially quoted.
1. Jets need better ST coach. You cannot deny this. 2. Jets need more picks in top 100. For the next three or four years. 3. Given sufficient talent, Ryan and MM combination will work. Mark my words.
Although I agreed most about what he says about the coaching staff and the players also, I still like the line backing corp...he failed to mention Q. Coples, so that puts a damper on his opinionated evaluation.
Rex can absolutely coach. I'm going to be pissed if he gets canned after this season. Again, the two years Rex has had an NFL caliber offense(from a talent standpoint, the GM's job, not his) he has two AFC Champ. games.
It's actually a perfect combination, I hope MM sticks around for a while. It would be a damn shame if Rex is gone next year, the guy can coach and I truly believe guys want to play for him. _
I like Rex and I like Marty. Only thing I don't like is how Marty does not like to run the ball, even if it is working.
