Just ran into this interesting article that shows how Keller helped a lot against the Colts in ways I didn't even think about: http://sportsgeekguy.wordpress.com/2012/10/16/the-unseen-mvp/
Great article. Keller completes this offense in more ways than one. Some people do give him a hard time for his blocking, but he seemed pretty good in that game. Great to finally have him back! Funny, the 2 games he played in this year were blow outs, the rest were struggles. He's valuable alright.
Keller has played 2 games this season. In those 2 games we scored 34 and 35 pts, in the other 4 games combined we scored 50. Is it a coincidence? maybe but I like our O a lot more w/ him in the lienup than out of it.
Yes, it's a coincidence...we played two shit teams in the only games he has played. If you think we will score 34 this week you are delusional.
yep, every team we beat sucks. we played a similar team in Miami and scored 20 in regulation, we played a simialr team in Pitt and scored 10. No one is saying we will score 35 a game w/ him but our O is much better w/ him than w/o him.
If I was looking for a patter between those games, I'd point to the quality of opponents' overall defense not Keller's presence. It is subjective though where we think the differences lie.
removing games vs. us: Indy averages allowing 28 PPG, we scored 35. +7 Buf averages 29, we scored 34. +5 Pitt averages 25 PPG allowed, we scored 10. -15
Not every team just the one's we beat when Keller plays..oh and we scored 48 against Buffalo, not 35. Buffalo has the worst defense in the league and Baltimore is 28th..you figure it out.
Did Keller record any catches against Indy? Can't recall seeing him involved in any plays with catches. I know he was just getting back on the field and the simple fact of having him out there helps.......
well i am not a huge fan of kellers but it is clear that a TE - any pass catching TE with decent legs - is a must for any offense in the NFL..... i wish the jets would draft a TE every year instead of the QB/RB/FB non-sense.
our offense scored 34, the D/Sts scored 14. Again, Buf allows average of 29 in non Jet games, we scroe 34 Pitt allows average of 25, we score 10. not much difference in Ds, huge different in O production. again, I'm not saying Keller was THE difference but he makes our O and our QB much better.
Well we will find out this week. NE is 8th against the run and 29th against the pass which will put this game in the hands of Sanchez and the passing game.
Can't debate Keller makes this offense better but my doubts are that he makes enough difference to decide whether Jets get blown out or competitive. Also, the TE depth on this roster is not good so the bar isn't set to too high for Keller to make a positive impact. Thinking I'm coming across as overly negative but I really am hoping Keller does well with for the remainder of the season. However, I'm also hoping the Jets don't offer him more than 3 Million for an extension.
Love Rex but I'd never take any of his public compliments seriously. It would actually mean a lot more to me if some anonymous football professional (announcer or management in another organization) praised Keller's blocking.
He didn't play two games ... he played one. He was on the field for about 2 minutes against Buffalo and was long gone before we really started scoring. Giving him much credit for what happened in that game, doesn't even border on ridiculous ... it goes way over the line. I like keller ... but let's not make shit up.
