http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4979835 Very nice piece of writing by Seth Wickersham which really looks at Prime Time's mentoring from every angle. Personally I think that Sanders gets a raw deal. I say so what if he's always been about himself first--that doesn't make him different from 90% of professional athletes. Even if his motivations are selfish he helps a lot of people out, and I think that he is picked on because he's an easy target.
what's amazing is that every teammate has said he was never a locker room cancer. The guy's ego is gigantic, but he does a lot for people. One of my favorite analysts too.
Geez, whenever he speaks I look for the nearest pencil to rupture my eardrums. Good person or not surely you jest?
That's great if he's Mr. Rogers, but football is a team sport last I knew. He gets picked on because he invites it. On a serious note, ex-players don't give back nearly enough as they should. I can't cut on him for that.
His teams always won. He might have been about himself off of the field, and on it with respect to tackling, but he was always 100% on gameday and you knew it was always quality game that he was bringing. His teammates knew that too, that's why he was always part of a great teams.
Here's the good news folks.... the only CB to remotely look like Deion since he left the game is our very own Revis Christ.
I don't think hes a bad guy. Hes got a good heart and truly likes helping others. Who cares if he was a me first player, he got the job done every sunday. Him having an ego is almost expected when your consistently called the greatest player to play your position. Being a great CB you have to have a swagger and supreme confidence about yourself. Along with his god given talent, his swagger is one of the reasons why he was so great. Good points made he was always on great teams because he was a huge reason those teams were great. When he went to the 49ers it must of been a pleasure to watch Jerry Rice and Prime Time go at it. He was the best CB ever to play the game. Him not being a tackler is a flaw but a cornerbacks number 1 job is to prevent receptions from receivers and no one has done it better then him. and Champ Bailey.
I think it's that way because when they are on the set together, Irvin makes him look like a Rhodes Scholar.
Only analyst I like less then Deion is Shannon Sharpe. Though Michael Irvin and keyshawn johnson are close as well.
Deion is a scum bag. When I was 12 I asked him for his autograph after a mets braves game in florida and he walked right by me. I was the only one around, its not like he was bombarded. He's a piece of shit and shouldnt mentor anyone.
Sanders is one of the athletes along the way I have no use for. Incredible talent wrapped up in a panzy assed wrapper. The guy talks all day long and he's afraid to lower a hit on someone.
umm, he admitted he didn't want to tackle. its not like he Kerry Rhodes-ed it out there. You do realize Revis is the only CB who plays like him since Sanders, right? And Revis tackles big RBs like Brandon Jacobs.
He was but hes older now and shouldn't be in the conversations as best CB in the NFL if that's what you meant by conversation. If that is what you meant he has been the best CB in the NFL for the past 8 or so years and recently just fell off when he tore his hamstring. Even at his advance age, he gave up only 1 TD last year on 92 attempts and allowed 53% of passes thrown his way to be completed. Sure its not a god like 36% like Revis and I think Revis might of just had a better year then any Deoin year due to the competition he faced. But I can't find the statistical data on Bailey from his prime years the only thing I do know for a fact is while he was on the redskins, he didn't allow a single TD for a little over 3 years straight which is an amazing accomplishment. Revis is a better press corner then Bailey but other then that, there's nothing Bailey can't physically do on a football field that Revis can. He's a better athlete, is also awesome against the run, also is a play making machine, can take it to the house on any INT and up until last year when Revis raised his game, was still the most dangerous CB to face in the red zone. I think Revis probably will pass him up all time because he is off to an amazing start, but he is going into year 4 of his career while Bailey has been an absolute nightmare to play against for years and has put in work. Revis isn't even in his prime yet, which is scary, but hes gotta put the years in before we put him in the HOF or on an all time list. Bailey is definitely an all time great and easily the best CB of this past decade. Now its Revis' turn to own the 2010 decade.
What does Revis have to do with this? lol I never heard Sanders say he didn't want to tackle... I just remember one particular game someone was breaking away and Sanders made the sissiest effort in football history to look like he fell down so he didn't have to hit the guy. The guy ended up scoring. And Rhodes reminds me more of Sanders.. less the than talent of course. Big mouth and all pussy.
