I really hope that the FO goes with Blalock and steers clear of Greg Olsen, who wouldn't even be considered at #25 had he run, say a 4.7 or so....
I'm hoping Olsen is off the board by 25. If Mangini sticks with the theory of coaching up CBs, we go for a CB in Rd 2....Wilson or Bennett. If Mangini wants to build in the trenches(Which I tend to believe)....Blalock or Harrell fill the bill in Rd 1.
Mike...you're right...most have Blalock higher than Grubbs. Don't be surprised if Grubbs goes at the very end of rd 1.
Bottom line : If Jets' draft Blaylock & he starts & plays injury free, Jets' win 2 extra games this season & that could get them into playoffs.
That's not the bottom line though. Consider our line for years to come with 3 young studs growing up together. If everything works out, we could have a dominant line for years to come.
I think I might agree with you on this one. I still think we need an impact player on defense either at OLB or on the line. I don't see too much of a difference between someone like Blaylock at the end of the first and Beekman at the end of the second. I guess the same could be said about Spencer and Woodley or Harrell and McDonald though.
If Blalock is the BPA, we should take him... He can help us at either guard spot and right tackle. A guard isn't a flashy impact player, but Blalock could certainly have an impact on our running game for the better. That could make him an impact player in some sense...
Why exactly is drafting a Guard in the first round dumb? Would you rather wait for them to hit free agency and sign them to Dielman, Hutchinson,Davis,Steinbach type contracts? I just do not get it if the player is a good player then draft him, why should we draft a particular position in a particular round.We want the best player for our team so why do we bother about the position. What round should we draft a Guard vrs a LB/CB./DL? If we pass on Blalock in the first round , he will be gone by the time we pick in the second round and so will grubbs.Then what do we do?Go for the third or fourth best Guard? just because. The third round, same with Schlegel.we also drafted a kicker in the second round, so i dont buy the arguement that a guard cannot be drafted in the first round.
Blalock is generally higher, but he considered Blalock and Sears as Tackles who will switch positions, while Grubbs is a pure guard.
I'm a big fan of Blalock and I really think 3 young studs on the o-line is exactly what we need - particularly given the strengths of the d-lines in Buff,Mia, and particularly NE, BUT I don't think he's a target for the Jets. For the past fwe years, everyone we've drafted has come in for an interview before the draft - as of now, I ahve yet to see that Blalock has been invited in - which is not a great sign. Pity, I really think he seems like such a perfect fit (I started that thread about why we should take him)
NFLDraftCountdown actually has Grubbs going earlier than Blaylock. Based on their reports, it sounds like Grubbs has more potential. He's quicker and more athletic. He's a late bloomer, having started his college career at DT and then TE before moving to OG.
I don't think it is neccessary to spend three first round picks on the offensive line and I don't think the Jets will do that either. They have the fondation with Brick and Mangold... I still think the Jets need a playmaker at TE...no...Chris Baker isn't the answer...never has been...never will be. CB is a big need as Dyson and Barrett are the only solid guys we have and Barrett's status is questionable with his hip problems.
Personally, I think we will trade the pick. Are any of the people projected to be still on the board at 25 worth a 1st? Would they be there in any other year? First round picks cost a lot more money then 2nds.
