Round 1, Pick 29 (29) Kyle Wilson CB 5'10" 194 Boise State Video Pick Analysis: The Jets' loaded defense gets some more star power with addition of Kyle Wilson. The Boise State standout was viewed as the top corner on some boards, and his skills make him an exceptional nickel corner. Additionally, he possesses the requisite grit and toughness that is demanded by the Jets' coaching staff. For a team that is loaded on defense, the landing of Wilson is a case of the rich getting richer. Round 2, Pick 29 (61) Vlad Ducasse OT 6'4" 332 Massachusetts Pick Analysis: The Jets pick up a developmental prospect in Vladimir Ducasse. The Massachusetts star played offensive tackle as a collegian, but could move inside to guard for the Jets. With the team currently loaded along the line, Ducasse will have the opportunity to sit on the sideline and learn the craft before playing a bigger role in a few years. =========================================================================== Needs Analysis: The Jets tapped into the Chargers' roster by trading for CB Antonio Cromartie and signing free-agent RB LaDainian Tomlinson. They seem to be having trouble locking up KR/RB Leon Washington to long-term deal. There are also some age issues along both lines with DE Shaun Ellis and OT Damien Woody both in the twilight of their careers. Former first-round choice Vernon Gholston doesn't look like he can be counted on at outside linebacker, and unless they are able to pluck Adalius Thomas from the Patriots, they will need to address that position in the draft. Picking 29th overall makes it difficult to target a certain player, but an excellent receiver may drop to them, which would make sense with Braylon Edwards and recently acquired Santonio Holmes both under contract for just one year.
A- Kyle Wilson was a huge steal. He's a perfect fit for this scheme. Vlad the Impaler was also a steal. I thought there was no way he'd last that long. The guy's a mountain of potential. Bill Callahan will mold him into a big time player. Two damn good picks so far. Hopefully things stay that way.
So far I would grade it an A-, B+ The Kyle Wilson pick was just insane value and I loved it. The Vlad Ducasse pick was a solid pick that we needed, but it was just good value, not the great value that I've come to expect from Tanny and co. I do think that Ducasse has the potential to be a very good guard in this league though. So if he lives up to the ceiling of his potential, I'd give it a solid A.
Players wise..I rate it an ...A. Jets had only 2 picks. I wish there was more quantity... Jets finally got a bigg fatty up front. CB.....a much needed pick.
This guy might play Guard now, but will probally take over at either Tackle spot. RT will be his & if Brick gets hurt, they finally have a capable LT replacement.
By this stage in last year's draft we had Sanchez and Greene. We can't make the same quality over quantity argument this year.
Last year's draft class was piss poor. The Jets made a smart decision by going after the players that they wanted. This year's class is incredibly talented. Our team landed a corner that had a 50/50 shot at going 7th overall...with the 29th overall pick. Ducasse has the potential to develop into an amazing run blocking left guard. So far, this draft has been great. It seems to me like you're upset with the lack of players picked. You have to take Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, and Antonio Cromartie into account here. They were all acquired with these draft picks. I don't think we'd find anyone in this draft better than these three guys.
This draft has been absolutely amazing for us so far, I think we got genuine steals at both of our picks, and all we had to do was sit there. The greedy side of me wishes we could've had more picks, but we have had an amazing offseason so far. The best part is, it's not even over yet. Let the good times roll. I'm so happy!
...they did. What don't you like about getting a corner that could've gone in the top ten at 29? What don't you like about getting a young, gigantic, versatile offensive lineman with tons of potential at the back end of the second round?
I gave it an A, and the only reason it wasn't the A+ is that from what I understand, Tanny wanted to move up for Iupati. So the primary target in the 1st didn't happen, but we got our guard anyway, and 2 steals overall. I know its just nit picking.
I went with A. Wilson we certainly did not think would slip so far, massive amount of value which would on its own been A+. Vlad pick, is another good pick, some experts once again surprised by the fall, not as great as Wilson 'pick-it' up, A- for this pick, = A
Over the last few seasons, the second 'best' picks for us, have done very well, lets hope the trend continues.
Before the draft I thought I was overly optimistic when I was hoping for Odrick in the first and Ducasse in the second. Odrick would be long gone and with so many teams with needs on the O-line, Ducasse as well. I was right about Odrick, but we got Wilson instead. Even better! Easily an A this far. And with so much talent left on the board I think we have a great shot at an A+ draft.
The fact that we were able to grab Cro and Holmes as well with picks from this draft you really have to think it's been a very very good draft. Granted we may not have those guys around very long but the contributions they will make this year should be better then those made by any player we could have drafted at those positions. BTW anybody who voted C or C - clearly doesn't understand how the draft works. I wanted Griffen instead of Vlad but the fact that he is still on the board some 30 picks after we had a chance to take him and his old college coach who also happens to need a DE passed on him a few times tells me it's a good thing I'm not drafting for the Jets. Honestly the only thing that could have made this better would have been if somehow Mt Cody fell to us.
If we had moved up to get Odrick this would have been an A+. With the value we got at our original draft position we still get an A.
