How would you grade our first 5 choices in the 2006 NFL Draft? I am going with a C here. I liked the first 3 picks a lot. The last two, and many would agree: (What I originally wrote was hella ghey) I hope we can rebound a little better tomorrow.
I like every pick but Schlegel, Anthony. He is good at stopping only the inside run and runs slower then Vince Young thinks.
It will be better than CBS Sportsline who graded the first round: http://www.sportsline.com/u/partners/aol/index.html?http://cbs.sportsline.com/
I'm not failing them, but only cause I'm feeling generous. Brick when Hawk and Davis were available. Kill me. Mangold I love. Gold star for that one. Clemens... I dunno, I've never seen him play. The trade down, then up to get him was a joke though. Schlegel. We traded down to get him, but could have had Gocong if we stayed put. Kill me. Smith. a) we don't need a safety b) we don't need a safety that would have gone in the 6th round c) we don't need a safety not named Bing when Bing is on the mother f'ing board. Abuse me, insult me, kill me, then insult me some more. I would have never thought that on April 29, 2006 at 7pm I would be missing Terry Bradway. This draft is a disaster.
C at best. this draft aint impressive. and the fact that were reaching in the 3rd tells me tannenbaum needs to stick to the salery cap.
ESPN and SI.com said we had one of the best first days of any team. Do they not count? How did you think your Chiefs did, rajensen?
If any of you people giving this draft an A or a B ever complained about the 2004 or 2005 Bradway draft, you need medical attention.
First three are an a+ last two are a c-, so I give it a sold B. Schlegel and E. Smith do seem like very big reaches. I want to say this: This idea that Tannenbaum is in a room by himself making these picks is ridiculous. This is a group effort, with Mangini, and the Jets HUGE scouting team (and they have quite a large scouting dept.) all factoring in. Yes, I know at the end of the day, these are the G.M.'s picks, but if you think for a second that Mangini doesn't have tremendous input here, you are crazy. Let's see what day two brings... there is still a lot of value on the board for the 4th round selections. An offensive playmaker OF SOME SORT would be kind of nice.
i went F, i liked the first 3 picks but frankly the first 2 at least were no brainers, but the 3rd round was just so off the charts that I can't say anything but F.
D at best they reached and took the last 3 players 1-3 rounds early. The new FO either knows something everyone else does not or their age and lack of experience showed itself in a very embarrassing way today.
I give it a "B". I wouldve given it an "A", but the 3rd rd sucked IMO. We couldve gotten those 2 guys in the 4th and beyond, and it sucks even more because players like Spencer Havner and Darnell Bing/Ko Simpson were availabe. I am happy with the O-Line picks. Kinda funny how people on this board had Winston Justice and Marcus McNeil on par with D'Brick, yet they they fell in the draft, with teams who needed OTs passing on them.
First 3 picks loved it, would have chosen Brodie over Clemons but whatever that 3rd round killed it though.
Considering you wanted someone to kill you because the Jets took a great pass-blocking LT over an OLB or TE, I think you might be the one who needs medical attention.
Gave today a B+. The first two rounds are A+; drafting D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold was utterly vital to the future of the New York Jets, and that's just the end of the question. I know alot of fans wanted Vernon Davis and the flash and the fire, but the result would've been picking 4th again next year. Barring injury, the Jets are leaps and bounds better on the offensive line right now. I'm really intrigued by Kellen Clemens. Some have derided him as a "shorter Pennington", and though they mean it as an insult, they're actually right; this kid appears to be an excellent decision maker (19/4 TD/INT in 2005), with a knack for completing passes. The huge difference, according to video is the gun attached to his shoulder, which he has a knack for using on the run. He's most valuable because he represents a total shift in the way the Jets acquire QBs, in terms of the kind of guy we want. I'm very excited to see this guy competing for the top of the depth chart come August. While I understand Matt Schlegal is a reach in the conventional sense, I love the kind of player that he is - a bonecrusher laying in weight in the middle of the field. Word of his ability to motivate the rest of the defense and be in on every play is even more exciting. So it's important to see how this kid develops and what he can do in camp, while recognizing that Tangini drafted somebody with obvious limitations to his game. Can't say that I quite understand the thinking behind selecting Eric Smith. ESPN.com reports that he has extensive injury history to his knee, which is worrisome; I can't help but wonder if Mangini isn't a fan of Andre Maddox, another safety with injury problems, but I also accept that he knows what he's doing when it comes to the defensive backs. So I'll wait to see how Eric Smith plays out too; either way, the Jets are likely to have a rather nice DB corps in 2006. B+. Can't wait for Day 2!
I cant even call it a reach any more they drafted players some people didnt even think would be drafted. That aint a reach its plain stupid.
