Lets face it there are no WR's that will be there at 17 explosive enough to spend a 1st round pick on and no QB that makes any sense also with our defensive upgrades and no immediate holes to fill except maybe a stud DE. We should go RB. POWER RB in the 1st and WR in the 2nd and this guy could be available. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/h...3_kevin_ogletree_preps_for_the_nfl_draft.html
I really like Ogletree, but I think Maclin might slide down to number 17, which then I think we take Maclin. If he's not, We slide down some pics right ahead of the Dolphins at number 24, and pick up a guy like Nicks, which I think is a value pick. The dolphins are apparently targeting Nicks, and have had many interviews with him, and will be looking to him in the draft if he's on the board. But at 17, I would only want Maclin and maybe Nicks. But if not, Ogletree in the 2nd-3rd round for sure. But I strongly disagree with the running back selection at #17...because we need to address other holes and Thomas Jones is coming off a great year with exactly the same offensive line. I'd like to look at a running back in the 3rd round.
I completely disagree with the first statement. There are a couple of explosive WRs that should be around at #17. To start, Hakeem Nicks and Jeremy Maclin should be there. And if you're a Percy Harvin, Kenny Britt or DHB (Al Davis?) fan, they'll all likely be there. There is definitely some good talent at WR available at our pick. I'm also not a fan of taking a running back in the first either.. Sorry, but I completely disagree with your draft strategy. On Ogletree, minus his injury history - torn ACL in 2007, arthroscopic wrist surgery in 2006 - he looks like a solid prospect. But he's not nearly in the same class as guys like Hakeem Nicks, Kenny Britt and Jeremy Maclin IMO. My guess is he'll be around in the mid rounds.. And we need some immediate help at WR. I wouldn't be too confident in a mid round prospect coming in and starting or even playing over Chansi Stuckey, David Clowney or even Brad Smith. The need for a WR vastly outweighs the need for a RB at this point. I would look for a RB in the middle rounds.
Yeah, the more I think about it, a CB could happen. I maintain the best situation would be for Tyson Jackson to fall to us at 17, but I could see us going CB or ILB in that spot if he doesn't. Ideally, I'd probably take a look at Hakeem Nicks before a CB.
Kevin Ogletree is a big time sleeper -he was injured in the spring 2007 and missed the entire season. He's never been super-productive, but he was consistent. KO definitely won't be a second round pick, but he could be a very good pick in the 4th or beyond. Ogletree is a potential NFL #2, but he may never become anything better than a #4.
I would love to see Robiskie on our team if we must get a WR in the second round. I think if a team relies on the running game like we will you don't need game breaking WR's... what you need are reliable players who can guarantee they will find open space when called upon. Nicks has the ability to do both but Robiskie wouldn't be that much of a knockdown. Plus let's not forget we have Clowney as a deep threat, Keller who cathces the ball well and Stuckey who is a willing reciever (as in willing to get beat up by any LB/DB in the league ). I'm curious about Henry, he is big and I hope he develops into a nice end zone threat.
We are gonna be running the ball alot more than you guys imagine 450 /490 maybe. I definatley see a elite RB in the first two rounds in our future. TJ and Leon arent going to get the job done lets face it. 75 yards here 45 yards there a cloud of dust there and at the end of the season sure the stats were padded but who did we dominate and choke out with our running game? Look no further than Chris Wells and Javon Ringer.
They arent getting the job dne? TJ led afc with rushing had a decent amount of tds. I guess you dont watch many games.
Maclin, Nicks, id take either at 17 without blinking long as we dont touch Percy Harvin or DHB seriously. other than that id like Knowshon Moreno, Vontae Davis, Tyson Jackson,Jaron Gilbert (or maybe if Sanchez is on the board you trade back with a QB needy team and draft Hood for DL depth)
Huh? Are you suggesting we use our first rounder on either Chris Wells or Javon Ringer? Javon Ringer won't go before the 3rd. Why would you want to reach right up and grab him at 17?
I thought CB was most likely, before they picked up Shepard and Leonhard. The Leonhard pick makes it somewhat less likely that Lowery goes to safety, and Shepard could be slotted in as the starter opposite Revis. But it could also be that the new CS thinks most of the secondary bench are too mediocre. Like Eric Smith. They may still move Lowery to safety. Or even if they don't they might want to bring in a young guy to be groomed to be the #2 CB, if Lowery is the nickel. Even so, they might go down in the draft order for a CB. As of today, the wideouts look less settled than the secondary. Meaning a wideout pick at #1 looks somewhat more likely.
No immediate needs? I disagree (see my sig). I can easily see CB, S, and WR as needs. A DE, Coleman and Ellis are not getting younger. I am sorry but a backup NT is a HUGE need. When Jenkins got fatigued and injured the defense fell off dramatically. He can't keep playing 3 downs every serious (just too big), Pouha sucks, and in the 3-4 defense the NT is the lynchpin. I can easily see us trading up to get Raji if he begins to slip. RB is one where near the most pressing need on this team. I will be throwing my chair at the TV if they go RB in the first round.
Yeah, the Sheppard pickup made me think we were likely going to hold off on CB until later rounds, but the more I hear about Sheppard's injury history and declining productivity, the more I think they'd like a bit more depth at the position, and a potential solid #2 in future years. Like I said, having 4 serviceable CBs wouldn't be a bad thing, but it likely only happens in the first if other options are exhausted and if they don't like any of the WRs for the 17th pick.
