Round 2 is in the books, on to round three Jarron Gilbert is still on the board. With releasing Coleman, it means Marques Douglas is going to start, and we don't have much depth. Trade up, guarantee we get Gilbert, and make this defense dominant!
As much as I like Gilbert....I'll take my chances. We have 11 picks ahead of us, we own New Orlean's pick. I think Tanny may try to get back in Rd 5.
Trade what? the 3rd and 4th?, the 3rd and a 3rd next year?, 3rd and a 2nd next year?, all for a guy who wouldn't play this year probably at all? I mean I like gilbert as a prospect, but he makes Gholston look positively polished
so your suggesting that you want Mike Devito as your other Defensive End? at the same time I would hold down and wait untill we pick if we are close enough to the top of the third
As I see it, Gilbert isn't likely to go in the 3rd round until he hits the Patriots and Niners, the only 3-4 teams other than KC (who have a couple LSU DE's). They're two and three picks ahead of us. If we can do business with the Jaguars (whom we already contacted regarding trades) we can get ahead of those two teams cheap, maybe for just a 7th rounder. I feel very good about coming in with Jarron Gilbert before lunch tomorrow.
As much as I disliked Gillbert for our 1st round pick, he's one of the top 3 players left, and he won't survive 11 more picks in this draft. I don't think we should trade up for him if it would cost us and potential offensive weapon for Mark Sanchez. Please get this guy a receiver!!
Because he couldn't talk about a guy he hasn't drafted yet. Trust me, there is a zero percent chance DeVito is the starting DE come September, and you can quote me on that.
Personally, I never understood the love affair for Gilbert. I thought people were nuts to take him at #17 in their mocks and I got blasted for taking Jackson in mine. Gilbert is still on the board into round 3, and Jackson was a top 5 pick. Go figure. Gilbert was ridiculously hyped up around here for some reason but I just never bought into it. Only time will tell.
He;s a really good 3-4 DE, he plays well in the line, he's fairly polished but with room to grow, a good athlete, great size, long arms, great strength, engages well and stays down, and most importantly for a 3-4 DE he's a beast against the run Regarding the poster who thinks Jarron Gilbert is going to be a starter next year from day 1 you are out of your mind. He's got great size to speed ratio, but he's really really raw, he plays upright too much, lets guys get into his chest, and he's soft against the run, he's more of a 1 gap penetrating 4-3 DT than a 3-4 DE. Eventually he could really blossom, but he is not even close to ready to start
No way should they trade up at this point, if anything I wouldn't mind trading down in this round. There are at least 10 players I could live with at the Jets next selection. Clearly Gilbert was the most overrated prospect on TGG this draft season.
Well I was right on the cost of the move up, 3rd and 4th, actually a 7th too, they went with green though
