A sweep, and I believe...again! Just kidding of course! Since I might be the only one to post in a 4-game Mets thread, I'd just like to state how happy I was with Mark Sanchez's debut performance this evening. Quite possibly to myself. Santana vs. Cain should be a good game - though it's certainly no preseason football!!! (I went into today like it was a super bowl - which speaks volumes for the Mets season.) Like the U.S. government bails out banks and automobile manufacturers, can't the city of New York just make the Wilpons an unbelievable offer to buy the team - payed over a loooong period of time? Like 700 million over 30 years? Not only am I talking to myself, I'm dreaming aloud with this joke of a thread.
What was up with those hideous NY Giant throw-back uniforms the Mets wore last night? The Wilpons have a love affair with the Dodgers and Giants. The Mets? Who are they? The Mets' legacy is completely lost on them.
Wright's been diagnosed with a concussion. CT scan was negative, and he's staying overnight at the hospital for observation. Thank God it apparently wasn't worse.
The most impressive part of that was the article appearing on 8/13 and Wright getting hit in the head two days later. He could care less. Terrific. Needless to say, I'm not impressed. As I've stated in the past, the problem with current batting helmets is that they have no give. I heard some time ago that a company was in the process of making a revolutionary helmet that had give. The New York Times article: "Billy Witz contributed reporting. Billy Witz contributed reporting." Sloppy. I see Santana admitted to throwing at the Giants. Garza and someone else did the same and avoided a suspension. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gamecenter/recap/MLB_20090815_SF@NYM
are you really suprised by an ignorant statement from the guy that said "if obp is so important, why don't they put it on the scoreboard?"
Nope. Anyway, Castillo just hit one into the second deck in left field. Two run homer off Sanchez. 2-1 Mets. That was his 28th career homer. 25 of those have been hit against lefthanders.
Velez and Winn with back to back doubles in the 8th. Tied at 2 and the RBI double by Winn bounced Pelfrey.
So Wright has now been added to the DL..... So Reyes and Delgado are done for the year, Beltran won't be back till late August and now Wright is gone till late August or early September.... maybe they should just leave those guys on the DL and tank the season so they'll have a shot at that #2 overall pick to grab Strasberg as it appears he isn't going to be a National after tomorrow evening.
still a good chance he'll sign at the last minute. Boras loves to wait until the end to make teams sweat. It's still up in the air whether they'll go through with their threat.
I was exagerating... the Mets are awful but nowhere near as awful as the Dbacks, Royals or Orioles.... BTW My gut is telling me he isn't going to sign with Washington.... baseball should get with the times and the Nats should have been able to trade his rights to somebody who was serious about winning.
Update - Strasburg signed for more than $15 million. There goes the last reason to care about this season! BTW, I agree with you that draft choices should be able to be traded (subject to restrictions like they can only traded for players, not sold for money).
Dam you Nationals..... did they really have any option but to cave to his and Boras's demands? I think a team like Washington that has no bright future whatsoever shoudl be allowed to trade this guy's rights... could you imagine how many prospects they could have recieved from somebody that wouldn't object to giving this guy his money.
