Pelfrey vs. Lincecum tonight, which is also Jets Night, as has been discussed. Church is back on the DL; we're probably still paying for the way he was mismanaged after his concussion. Nick Evans has been called up, so get excited for that.
Carlos I with the 3-run shot. Lincecum is up on all his pitches so far. Got to keep at him before he figures it out. Obviously very unhappy about Church. At this point you have to wonder if he's ever really going to be back all year. What a tough break for him and for the team.
I'm glad that Pefrey is pitching better, but they might want to ease up on the praise a little bit. As of May 26 he was still terrible (5.33 ERA, 1.78 WHIP), but in the 7 starts since then (including tonight), he's been good, but it's not like he's been overwhelming (3.24 ERA, 1.39 WHIP).
I guess we're different - I care about the team's performance versus their rivals from the first day of the season. It's proven every year that wins and losses in April are worth just as much as ones in September. Given the psychological state of this team as recently as a few days ago, I think that being 1 1/2 out is actually a reasonable deal (if not quite a big one).
The way I look at it the Mets have to play consistently well to make the playoffs in the 2nd half. They're close enough in the standings that it's not like they'd need them to completely tank to overtake them. I guess it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth after the nonsense at the end of last year with Phillies updates every 5 minutes while the Mets were embarassing themselves on the field.
Its July, yes... but its good to gain ground. After all the crap in the first half, it does mean alot that we could be so close to first place come the all star break.. need to finish it off here. 5 more solid ballgames.
I'm happy enough about the decisive victory to not care that my thread lost out. That's a shame. Pelfrey was fantastic; he might be a real pitcher (who knew?)! The offense was very good against an ace pitcher...I'm feeling good.
