From this week's lead article in SI... "New York had five sacks and knocked Brady down a half-dozen other times. Central to the effort was Tuck's constant movement, making it difficult for Brady to identify where the rush was likely to come from. ("The Jets did that to them near the end of the season, and it looked like Brady had a hard time," said Tuck). " Finally, somebody speaks some truth about the Jets performance in the "snow" game. Yes, the Pats won, but the Jets held them to 20 (13 if you take away the ST TD) and nobody gave them any credit. All the media blamed the snowy weather, which was only a part of the story. It's not much, but it's a glimmer of something positive amidst a month of waiting and wading through Giants glory.
How true. Very few people gave the Jets credit for playing a great game, in fact outplaying the cheaters. What was very frustrating was that some of the so called Jet fans did the exact same thing. Disgusting.
The Jets never really got any credit for playing that game so close. Even though i recall reading an ESPN article that said he expected to lay a harsh beat down on the Jets in payback for spygate. One semi-serious article said the game would go over 100 points most to the Pats.
I call that style "The stand up and mingle 3-4". It looks like they’re going over to check the time or see if someone’s got a piece of gum and then they rush the passer. If there was that push on the line we are looking for then I think it would be a great sceam. No one could Defend it unless they kept extra guys back after the snap.
Not saying that at all...the Giants have a terrific front line, the Jets don't. The Giants have a great running game, and the Jets don't. Just saying that the truth of this team lies somewhere between 10-6 and 4-12, and with some key pick-ups, there is hope that Mangini can build us a champion.
Wasn't the wind around 40 MPH during most of that game? I think the deepest pass we completed was 16 yards?
Is that the play where Seymour Body Slammed Clemmens which should have been a flag on the Pats and NO TD????? I'd love to see Brady hit like that without a call.
Jets also beat the Pats last year with Brady getting hit a lot and ending the game in the mud.. THAT was the blueprint right there - Well, beat up on the QB should always be the blueprint but, Brady wasn't hit a lot this year at all.
The NYJ didn't get any credit for the best defensive game played against the Pats in the regular season because the NYJ offense gave up a touchdown on the secoond play and generally didn't show up again after that for the remaining 59 minutes. If anybody delivered a blueprint on how to stymie Brady, his backs and receivers, it was the NYJ defense and especially the NYJ defense's own 'home-grown' scheme that the players came up with during the bye. Our defense is flying down the right track. The OL and lack of speed on the offense with some exceptions (Leon W.) make for 12 losses last year. Only a handful of plays (count them on the fingers of a single hand) normally separate NFL teams in any given game. That's how close most if not all of them play each, regardless of the final score.
Exactly. Brady said himself after the Jacksonville playoff game when he went 29-31, if they give you all day to throw and you have good WRs that are getting wide open, it's easy to play QB. That's what killed us against them in Week #1. But this is why the Jets hired Mangini. New England is the team to deal with in our division for the forseeable future, so having a coach that understands what they do and how to play them is vital. You hope he gets the same results they got, but at the very least we need to be able to compete with them if we want to win our division, get home playoff games and give ourselves the best chance to advance. A big part of that is being able to beat them head to head.
