If he drops anything this weekend he should be gone Monday morning. He blew the game against New England dropping a touchdown pass and not catching another long pass that could have potentially tied the game. We are so mediocre on offense that the Jets do not have the luxury of carrying dead weigh.

Have you looked at the roster lately? We have no depth therefore, we have no choice but to keep Dropsy on the roster. I don't think we have to go into WHY our offense is so devoid of talent do we?

Gates is a known quantity(fail). I'd just as son give his reps to Spadola.

Spadola had a big drop too, let's not get too crazy with him yet.

That's what happens when 4th/5th receivers are given an increased role. We have no depth but at the same time I don't think Gates is that bad.

Gates is the same player we saw last season. The game is too big for him. Spadola's wasn't a drop: (sorry I'm not allowed to post a link)

Ryan Spadola saw action briefly and looked to have a reception downfield but the ball was knocked loose by the defender. That won’t go down as a drop, but it’s disappointing he couldn’t hold onto that one.

Oh man. How could a WR possibly drop multiple passes in torrential downpour? How ridiculous of him!

In true Jets fashion, Gates will catch just enough passes to make us vacillate, not having a clear indicator one way or the other.

So we'll keep him, squeeze ourselves into the P/Os somehow, and he'll drop another final, crucial pass in the EZ against NE, and we'll be eliminated. THEN we'll let him go.

  12. It's funny to me how this fanbase always needs a scapegoat player after a loss. This much venom for a back-up receiver who dropped acouple passes in a downpour???

Scapegoat or not, he couldn't make one play to help the Jets win the game. Geno got flak for his bad picks in the 4th, Gates gets what he deserves too. That said, unless Spadola comes out and has the game of his life, or Idzik all of a sudden notices someone on the waiver wire for the first time that's worth picking up at the WR position then it's not that easy. Gates isn't going anywhere simply because the Jets aren't good enough (nor is anyone out there) to have the luxury to say "f this guy, he sucks." We're stuck with him.

some woould argue that we should give guys like this a chance to play rather then sign a known reciever in Braylon. Boggles the mind

Spadola still only one target through 2 games, he should be in the game plan alot more especially instead of Gates.

Marty needs to get this guy more involved to see what we have.

    Thread title a little misleading...

I don't even blame Gates. There's no reason this guy should be starting. Blame past and current Front Office.

Having guys like Gates and Braylon is fine IMO. But I do remember people saying Gates was better than Edwards and I just didn't see it.

On a team with talent, Gates doesn't make the roster. On an average roster he's #5 at best. He is #4 for the Jets and was asked to play over 40 snaps against the Pats due to Kerley's injury. He was asked to do way too much, to do things that his limited skill set don't really suit, in terrible conditions with a rookie qb throwing to him. In other words he was set up to fail. He sucked, badly, but I'm not going to crucify him for it, he shouldn't have been put in that position really.

As I was reading through the thread, the first thing that I thought of was "...and posters on here wonder why there is still so much love for Braylon..."

From what I've watched so far of this season, he is the same player I saw Miami cut after 1 year. No progression in his game.
