I don't know if this deserved it's own thread or not, but what the hell are these 2 on the roster for??? Why can't they promote any of Fernando Martinez, Chris Carter, Nick Evans, Ruben Tejada or even Mike Jacobs? FC is just too long in the tooth, and GMJ just straight up sucks. This guy couldn't hit a ball off a tee. Thoughts.....

Carter or Evans should definitely be up for Catalanato. FC is terrible. As for GMJ, I agree that he is awful. He is worthless in the field as well as at the dish. They should probably bring up Evans instead. I bet the reason they haven't is because they need a backup CF. You don't want to promote FMart just to have him sit on the bench in the majors.

I'd rather Catalanotto or GMJ on the bench then any of the younger guys at the moment. If you bring them up, you want them to start, and get real playing time.

Also, Fmart has yet to prove himself at the AAA level, so he should be completely out of the equation til he shows he can bring it there.

    Carter > Catalanato
Evans > Matthews (just release this guy already, please....)
Carter's not that young, and a versatile guy like Evans will find at bats. These two fossils don't belong on the bench anymore, imo.

The jinx is on!!!!!! Fernando Martinez just 'hurt himself' running out a grounder.

Regardless of what we feel about him, looks like we're stuck with GMJ for now. I do agree that Catalanatto should be dropped in favor of Carter, and I can't think of any reason why that this hasn't happened already. Maybe it's because he's from Smithtown??????

GMJ can't be replaced by Evans, Carter, or Jacobs because they cannot play CF.

Have to have a backup CFer, it's time we make a deal with a team who has a surplus of OFers.

FC is a utility player and Matthews a CFer, Evans and carter are 1b and corner OFer's. You may be able to get rid of FC and use Cora in the middle IF and Tatis at 3rd, but only Martinez can play CF of those 3 and he needs at bats to deveolpe, sitting on the bench in the majors is not going to help him. Matthews will be gone whenever Beltran comes off the DL. FC might be gone when Murphy is activated, unless he is traded.

    GMJ can't play CF either

    Mike Pelfrey's OPS+ = 36
    Catalanato and GMJ OPS+ combined = 23

Cattalnotto has been DFA'd and Carter has been recalled per Jerry's postgame.

Chris Carter: .339/.395/.615 6 HRs in triple A. Good riddance, Cats.

I'd rather have Joe Schmoe from AA than watch this washed up former PED user ever swing a bat again. I don't give a shit. I can't watch the human strikeout machine bat again. Just put any live body into CF as a backup.

Jason Pridie is the best replacement for GMJ at this point. Pridie is an above-average to good defender at any of the outfield positions with speed. He can't hit amazingly, but can't be any worse than GMJ. He has a skill set with potential to be similar to Endy.

Evans is not good. He had like 150 good at bats, and there's a reason he was down in the minors even last year despite the team being depeleted by injury..

    I'll give you Carter though.

Before he was initially called up back in 08 i think, Evans actually had not that bad of a minor league career. And he's been swinging the bat well down there this year too. I'd definitely have taken Evans over Catalanatto. We need Matthews because he's one of 2 bodies we have on the roster right now capable of playing CF, even though he's not as good as he used to be, and he can't make contact with the ball for shit.

Even though Evans is hitting .313 with 5 HRs and 19 RBIs (at AA to be fair), my point behind my OP was that ANYBODY would be better than Matthews. Anyone who thinks Matthews can still play CF is on drugs. He can't hit, he can't field. I'd rather see Pridie who's the Bisons CFer, and I believe someone mentioned his name in a previous post in this thread.
