    1) New York Jets
Key additions: CB Darrelle Revis, DT Leonard Williams, offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

When you add one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and the best defensive lineman in the draft, you know you've had a good offseason. The Jets ranked sixth in overall defense last season but 14th against the pass; Revis, Antonio Cromartie, Buster Skrine and Marcus Gilchrist will improve what was considered a weak secondary last year. Linebacker David Harris -- the quarterback of their defense -- was retained. Williams, meanwhile, will only bolster a fearsome front that already included Sheldon Richardson and Muhammad Wilkerson.

I'm a Geno Smith backer, and I think he can make good on the flashes of promise we've seen, especially under new coordinator Chan Gailey, who will iron out the erratic throws and forced passes and help Smith establish consistency. Receivers Brandon Marshall and Devin Smith, running backs Stevan Ridley and Zac Stacy and guard James Carpenter will further boost the offense and improve Geno's chances of breaking out. And if the young quarterback falters, New York can turn to veteran backup Ryan Fitzpatrick, whom Gailey knows well from their days together in Buffalo.

New head man Todd Bowles is an exceptional coach, and new general manager Mike Maccagnan has done a heck of a job, especially in the draft. Much depends on the quarterback play, but if Smith makes a leap, the Jets can definitely contend for a wild-card spot.

Can't really disagree with anything he's saying.

If Geno can make the leap I dont see why there is any reason why we couldnt contend for the division. The Pats lost a lot on defense. And whether Brady misses 4 games or 2 games or 0 games I think they take a little bit of a step back. Maybe not a miss the playoffs all out disaster but def not contend for the SB again.

The entire division outside of the Pats got better.

A lot of scouts / analysts seem to support Geno Smith. Skies the limit if he has a breakout year.

This team is looking a lot like the 2011 team at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if they won 9 or 10 games and were in the playoff picture all the way through the season. If Geno plays like Sanchez played that year that's the likely result. If he plays well on a consistent basis they could win some more. If the QB play looks like it has over the last 2 seasons they could lose 11 or 12 again.

    Hi DaBallhawk.

Looks like you are posting on this board longer than most of us. Thing is, I just saw your posts recently. Were you on another board until this time?

Well, I for one am happy to see your posts and I hope you will stick around and contribute to this board.

Thanks I appreciate it. I started posting here around 2005 regularly, then I sort of just stopped. After a while I decided to start posting again, I forgot I was a member here so I registered at some other Jets board (Jets Insider) and that's pretty much where I've been until that place burned to the ground a few months ago. When the members over there looked for new other options somebody mentioned TGG so I came over and tried to register with my user name but that account was taken for some reason. Turns out it was my account. I used my old password and off I went. :D

I plan on sticking around, hopefully we can get more people to be more active, get more discussions going, post more news so that the board continues to grow. I've been back only for a week or so now but I've tried to give people stuff to talk about and will continue to do so unless I'm busy with something. :p

NOW is the perfect time to think division title.

How is it the perfect time? We still don't have a quality, consistent QB. Our OL is questionable at best. We have a brand new HC and the team is learning new offensive and defensive systems. We have a number of new players on the OL and secondary that have to learn to play together with their respective units. That is hardly the perfect time to win the division.

We haven't IDENTIFIED that QB yet, that doesn't mean he's not here. Geno can be that guy, Fitz can be that guy. We don't know yet. Nobody thought Brady would be the guy until he stepped in and proved people wrong. Not comparing Geno to Brady obviously, but it's not always black/white. You don't just either have a good QB or you don't. Sometimes you probably think you don't and you end up with a QB who surprises people. And vice versa. We have to wait and see, hopefully one of the 2 guys can step up.

If Geno has a breakout year we are doing more than making a playoff appearance...were making a run for a few years

Dude, whatever. At this point in time, we don't have that QB. Might Geno surprise? Yes. Is it likely? No. My point remains that until the Jets have that QB, it's not the perfect time. You aren't the savior for this board and not the all-knowing fan. Take an ego check. Pull your head out of your ass or whatever your problem is. Personally, I don't care what it is. I've been watching the NFL for 52 years. I'm fully aware of what can and does happen on teams.

I've had about enough of your attitude, however. If you want to have a rational, civil discussion great, but leave the condescending tone, arrogance, and talking down to me in your home. Otherwise, we're done talking.

Are you on some kind of drugs? Why do you agree with me and then you just flip out like you're on steroids or something? Put me on ignore and move on. He agrees with me only to call me out a few lines later. Jesus.

We all know what this means:

Meanwhile, in 'NFL' news, the Yanks are in 1st place in the AL East - all is normal.
