This is similar to the first offseason run through I did, but with the key difference of trading with the Eagles for the combination of Alshon Jeffrey and Andre Dillard. After actually looking at the cap hit, as I understand it the Jets would only have to take on Jeffrey’s salary, not his prorated bonus, meaning Jeffrey and Dillard are on the books for less than $12 million combined. If you dump Jeffrey after the year you owe him nothing, but now have a young OT under contract for a few more years. Keep in mind this is not what I necessarily want to happen, just another hypothetical scenario. With the trade for Dillard and Jeffrey, you get a young LT under cheap contract for 3-4 years, and a WR you can cut after the season. It costs less than signing Robby and Beachum back, and this leaves you space to sign both Conklin and Thuney. So you have 3 new OL starters before you even hit the draft. NFL Draft: 1-CIN: Joe Burrow, QB, LSU —Easy and not much explanation needed. Ohio kid becomes Cincinnati’s best QB since Carson Palmer. 2-WAS: Chase Young, Edge, Ohio State —Adding strength on strength... Washington will likely be a top 3 pass-rushing team for the next 5 years. 3-DET: Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State —The Chargers sign Teddy Bridgewater and aren’t looking to jump the Dolphins. The Lions no longer have a trade partner, and select the top CB. 4-NYG: Isaiah Simmons, ILB/S, Clemson —After Simmons’ stellar combine, Dave Gettleman can’t resist adding the dynamic player to his terrible defense. 5-MIA: Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama —Miami hangs out at 5 and gets their guy. The QB carousel works in the Dolphins’ favor so no trade is necessary. 6-LAC: Jedrick Wills, OT, Alabama —The Chargers have signed Teddy Bridgewater in this scenario, and look to grab a QB later. They want to win now, so they grab the top OT of the year. 7-CAR: Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn —Carolina decides to give Cam a chance to be great again, and take a tone setter for the middle of Matt Rhule’s new defense. They could go OT but Brown is too good to pass on, and resist the urge to take a WR as they can get a good one in round 2. 8-ARI: Ceedee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma —The Cardinals would love an LT but just can’t resist giving Kyler Murray his guy. 9-JAC: Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina —Jacksonville takes the best defensive player on the board remaining, and replace Marcel Darius with a younger, cheaper impact player. 10-CLE: Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa —Cleveland takes its versatile lineman, hoping to give Baker Mayfield and chance for a bounce back year. 11-NYJ: Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama —The Jets addressed the offensive line heavily in FA, allowing them to select the best offensive player available. 12-LV: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon —Jon Gruden is ecstatic to get his very own QB to work with. 13-IND: Jordan Love, QB, Utah State —The Colts really like Love, and want to give him a year to sit behind Phillip Rivers. 14-TB—>PHI: Henry Ruggs, WR, Alabama —Philly moved Alshon Jeffrey and acquired a pick or two along the way. They want big time speed, and they go get it. 15-DEN: Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia —Drew Lock gets some protection for his blind side here, since the top three WR are gone. 16-ATL: AJ Epenesa, Edge, Iowa —A nice edge rushing piece that should help a healthier Atlanta team. 17-DAL: Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama —Dallas needs a safety badly, and McKinney is the right fit. 18-MIA: Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville —Miami’s rebuild features another key piece in round 1. Tua may not start immediately, which gives Becton some time to develop. 19-LV: Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama —Vegas can get a linebacker in the a later round, so they take a corner. Robby Anderson is a Las Vegas Raider at this point, so WR is not a must. 20-JAC: CJ Henderson, CB, Florida —Jacksonville has a great opportunity to take a talented CB here, giving them a more complete defense. 21-PHI—>TB: Jacob Eason, QB, Washington —Tampa Trades down to select Eason, who they plan to sit for a year behind a veterans QB. 22-BUF: Tee Higgins, WR, Clemson —Buffalo gets their big bodied WR to round out their corps of pass catchers. 23-NE: Laviska Shenault, WR, Colorado —Shenault fits perfectly into the “find a role for playmakers” scheme of New England, and will be impactful for Brady day one. 24-NO: K’Lavon Chaisson, Edge, LSU —New Orleans gets a steal with Chaisson at 24, and will be the pass rusher they need for one more playoff push. 25-MIN: Kristian Fulton, CB, LSU —Mike Zimmer loves his CB’s, and Minnesota just happens to need one. 26-MIA: Josh Jones, OT, Houston —In a surprise pick, Miami doubles down on the OL. Building in the trenches is key, and the Dolphins want talent in front of their new franchise QB. 27-SEA: Grant Delpit, S, LSU —Seattle hopes to turn Delpit into a dominant, roaming enforcer by solidifying his tackling technique. 28-BAL: Kenneth Murray, ILB, Oklahoma —Baltimore would love to replace the impact CJ Mosley had in the center of their defense. 29-TEN: Yetur Gross-Matos, Edge, Penn State —Tennessee adds another outside rusher to stay competitive with powerhouse AFC offenses. 30-GB—>CIN: Austin Jackson, OT, USC —The Bengals move back up to grab the best tackle remaining. 31-SF: Justin Jefferson, WR, LSU —Likely losing Emmanuel Sanders in FA leaves space for a quality WR in San Francisco. 32-KC: Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU —Kansas City has to pay Chris Jones up front, which means they need cheaper talent on the back end of the defense. I don’t know how accurate the potential contracts are, and what it would take to acquire Dillard and Jeffrey. Assuming the Jets still have a second round pick, I still would like them to address the Center position with Ruiz or Biadasz. This means your OL group is Dillard, Thuney, Biadasz, Lewis, Conklin, and Edoga as a swing. Also, your WR group is Jeudy, Thomas, Jeffrey, Crowder.
As good as the WR is I would be pissed if we pass on Mekhi Becton and even worse let him play us twice a year for the rest of his career. Also Andrew Thomas as well tbh
Would you still want to draft Becton even if the Jets has Dillard, Conklin and Edoga on the roster before the draft?
I would keep Avery Williamson over Jordan Jenkins. OLB is a position we should be looking to upgrade.
I think so yes, I know somebody didn't agree with me but I still believe if you give Sam the time to throw the ball downfield then we will see a different QB and that is everything that is important, apparently this year the draft is full of WR talent so grab another in a lower round. Not saying the guy isn't a top talent and that we don't need a top WR talent but I still believe that if we can't get the ball to one it is pointless having one. More OL the better, Edoga doesn't fill me with much confidence as a starter just yet. You never said but why is Philly trading us a good LT prospect in Dillard btw?
I must have missed something - who/what are the Jets trading away for Dillard? He's kind of in the dog house so I'm not sure if the Joe D would like to be in the same predicament unless its on the cheap.
There was a rumor that the Eagles want to re-sign Jason Peters and use Andre Dillard to package with Alshon Jeffrey. Jeffrey has had public issues with Wentz and they want to unload his guaranteed salary. A mid late round pick to get Dillard and take Jeffrey I read. May all be bullshit anyway, just got interested in the potential offseason that would follow that move.
https://www.bleedinggreennation.com...rade-jason-peters-alshon-jeffery-philadelphia Is Dillard any good then? 4 starts in 16 games.
I think the Eagles reached a bit for him in the first because of Jason Peters’ injury. He came in to the league being considered to need a little time by many. He had 4 starts because Jason Peters and Lane Johnson are the best starting tackle duo in the NFL, and he filled in for injuries I believe including a start at guard. The Eagles want to go for a Super Bowl this year, whereas the Jets would make a legitimate push in 2021. I could see putting together a starting OL that includes Dillard, and letting the offense get used to each other, and have at least 4 of those starting OL return in 2021 for the beginning of a real SB window.
I think there’s absolutely no truth to this rumor or attaching Dillard to Jeffrey just to get AJ out of town. They are moving on from Peters so they are going to trade their young LT of the future just to Move AJ? Nah that’s not happening.
